Hey guys,

Had a very successful parts run today, bought most of the guys T stuff as a lot. Included in the lot was a Paco racing body (The front half), a pair of '23 era TT front fenders, running boards, and brackets with battery box, and get this... a full matched set of Buffalo wirewheels! It had the rear hubs and brake drums, but missing the front. Some of the parts of this lot are keepers for sure (Like the Paco body), but wow what a score!

PICTURES!!! Faultless and Paco are my two favorite speedsters, much more so than the Mercury others rave about. If you have half a body, and it is even marginally rebuildable, it can be resurrected. I wish I could find the photos I took of my first boat-tail before "resurrection". Many T people looked at it. Nearly all of them said "It can't be restored". It was then I started saying that "I would rather have a wrinkled original than a flawless copy".

A Champion body.
(I need to dig out some better photos of it and scan them into my computer!)

I know, I am strange. But I have never been a big fan of wire wheels. One thing they do look good on, is a good boat-tail speedster. Between the wires and half a Paco body, you have the beginnings of a really great speedster!

Congratulations and good luck!
Drive carefully, and enjoy, W2

I'll get pictures uploaded when I can! My front body half looks very much like yours, and is very very saveable. I'd love to find more original pieces in similar shape to help put this one back together, or I'll fabricate the rest. Do you have any build photo's of yours, that I could stash away for the time I actually start this one? (I gotta finish the '14 Touring first)

The wire's will most likely be sold. I'm like you, I like them on some cars, but other cars just doesn't look right. (I am a huge fan of wood spoked wheels though).

I have the skin of an old barn yard racer. About all it is worth is a pattern.

Jack, that would be neat to see pictures of; would you mind sending me some to my email if it wouldn't be a imposition? It would be at studebakeraffiondo(At)gmail.com

Dylan, it will have to wait till spring as it is buried under a bunch of body metal in the loft of a barn.

That's a beauty, Wayne. And as for wire wheels, I'm with you, sort of, on that. Carol and I thought hard before selling the wires that came with the coupe. I went online and looked at coupes with wires and coupes with woods. For us, it was unanimous - wood wheels were our preferred choice for the coupe.

I don't have any postable photos of the resurrection of that car. The following photos are of my current boat-tail. Because this car didn't have any original wood to copy, I slightly altered the design of the wood from the first car which had about half its original wood, and built it from memory.

Not all boat-tail builders used quite the same wood structure. There was another thread a week or so ago about Paco bodies. It included the names of a couple owners of complete cars as well as the "best ultimate expert" on Paco. You should try to contact some of these owners to find out exactly how Paco did the wood in their cars. To me, they are one of the best looking T speedsters and deserve good restorations.
Check this.

Me, I'll probably just have to be satisfied with my "not a Mercury". Fine by me, I like it.
Good luck! Drive carefully, and enjoy, W2
