Hey guys

I'm being a little optimistic here. I would like to have my T done by the end of summer. With that said, I would love to find some good goggles and a nice long leather styled trench coat to wear driving a speedster, but it's hard to find them around. Any suggestions?

Matthew,

For Goggles try this link.

For Leather Trench Coats try this link.

I am sure there are a number of other places to look as well. Nieman-Marcus had a very nice leather trench coat for only $3,495.00.

Here's an earlier discussion: http://www.mtfca.com/discus/messages/257047/280212.html?1333673723. I expect a Google search will turn up others.

You may find leather a bit too toasty in warm weather. You might do well to also have one of the Czech coats for warmer days.

Go to www.uswings.com and search for the snoopy combo. Leather helmet, goggles, and silk scarf. That's what I like to wear.

p.s. I also got the trenchcoats like Steve has from the discount place. I forgot the name. Steve will let you know.

I'm looking for some knickers and newsboy hats to fit my boys. We usually put them in bibs.

Here are those czech coats: http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/3-new-czech-military-surplus-work-coats-br own.aspx?a=612607.

Newsboy caps: Sometimes in some Wal-Mart stores; also sometimes at Sears, Penney's, Target. Prices vary from not bad to shocking. A Google search brings up lots of online choices. The same is true for knickers, also with a wide price range.

Steve: Those czech coats look perfect. Better yet, they come in a 3 pack. Cheap too. I like ordering surplus for that reason. I got a great Soviet officers jacket for $12 that keeps me warm in winter. These coats look like they will do nicely for cooler, but not real cold, weather.
Dave, The snoopy goggles are also great! I think i'll order them tonight :-) boy am I going to have fun this summer. Now if only my T was up and running yet (sheepish grin)

Rats, apparently all that's left is small & large and the sizes run a bit small, so won't fit me.

These folks have both canvas and linen dusters. Styles didn't change much at the turn of the century on these sorts of things.
Their stuff is made in USA by local seamstresses. I've been wearing their clothes for years.

This was a link on that site to a coat my girlfriend thought would look nice too: what do you guys think? Could it pass as period correct style (apart from the reflector bottom)?

Cool Coat...reflector aside

So I ordered the firemans coat I showed in the link. I think it looks fairly correct. Says they're quite warm and "rain proof." Also, I kind of like the idea of having some small reflectors on the bottom of the coat. If i'm driving the speedster at night it may come in handy to have some light reflecting off of me so other cars can see me better. Safety first right? Thanks for all of the responses guys. Now i'll order the snoopy goggles and pick up a newsboys cap and be set: i'll toss on some courderoy jeans or brown dress jeans and loafers for the rest of the outfit. I'm all set for comfortable apparel to keep me warm and look good this summer and fall.
Final step? Get the engine rebuild done, rebuild the rear end, do the electrical, assemble, and make my speedster body! Can't wait! I have been waiting a decade for this thing to run, and now that it seems to near and likely I am brimming with excitemement. I'll be sure to post a video of the first start.
First start might be push start though: despite the crank rotating freely, and each piston rotates free when only one is attached to the crank shaft, when all 4 are on that son of a gun is too tight to turn. I think i'll push start it and let it run a few hours to wear the rings in (well oiled too) so that I can get it loose enough to crank.
