I helped a friend get his 1917 Roadster pickup running for the first time in 10+ years today. It runs well on 6V but rather ragged on mag. We were able to find the "sweet spot" at about 3/4 advance, but the coil points were sparking a lot. I recommended he talk to Ron the Coilman for a rebuilt set of coils.

The other problem we encountered was that the advance rod (at the timer) rubs the fan belt when fully advanced. The motion of the timer seems right, but I don't see how to solve this problem unless we use a smaller belt. The belt is brand new so any stretch will further exacerbate the problem. What are we doing wrong?

Re-check the fan bracket arm, the fan, the pulley, and the belt length for the model year of the T's engine.

Something is off if the timer is set right, there shouldn't be interference.

Full advance, no problem, '23 engine

Yep, you have to watch out for that.

Thanks Dan,

The picture you show is what we see at fully retarded. It looks like we will have to rewire the timer and re-shape the rod.

Steve, That's the look well have if we don't.
