I have sent a PM to Royce and Dan Treace in the last couple of days and it would appear neither actually was received. I am not sure if PM is working from this forum. Can anyone dispute that? Just not sure.
John, the answer is a qualified yes. When someone clicks on the "Send this user a private message," the recipient receives an e-mail from:
ChrisNoReply@MTFCA.com
and a request to reply to the e-mail address listed in the body of the message. Replying to an e-mail by hitting "Reply" is so automatic that I suspect that people do it regardless of the instruction. The last one I received was on September 21st, so it was working then.
I received a couple of them over the weekend... really have to be careful how you reply, or it will get lost in cyberspace.
John -- I just emailed you their addresses.
I sent emails later and respondents said they never received PM in the first place. Most everyone is well aware of the "reply to" issue and that is not what I am talking about.
John,
I sent 2 PM's to Royce and he did not get those either. That is my recent experience although when I did send Royce the PM and requested a copy to myself, I did get my copy.
I have had mixed success... sent a PM last week to Dave Huson which was received, had others PM me or vice-versa in the past with perhaps 50% success.
Check your junk mail folder in your email handler. Some handlers see the redirects as 'junk' and you either need to place the 'from' address into 'safe' or look in the junk folder from time to time.
The forum is designed to use a system email as the default to send these private messages. As mentioned above if you just press reply the messages get returned to ChrisNoReply@mtfca.com
I changed it to this so it would get returned to the sender.
Chris:
Seems that a lot of us sent PM's about the same time that did not arrive at all at the far end. I just ran a test PM to Ron Patterson and he to me while we were in phone contact and both got there although his to me took awhile. I think we are all aware that you cannot simply reply to a PM and must direct the reply to the noted email address of the PM sender but I have used PM a lot from the forum to simply drop a quick note to someone while on the forum and only recently on the one day did I not get a reply to 2 PM's sent to separate people within the same hour and follow up to both via regular email met with answer that NO PM was ever received. I know that is not much to go on so don't worry but if PM proves unreliable I will stop using it since it is a minor inconvenience to get off the forum and send email direct but sometimes I don't have any email address for the person I am sending PM to.
Does PMing work on this site?
Why would you think P Ming works here?
Or did you mean Ping and Moaning?
Hal and I have sent several PM's to each other over the past two weeks and it seems to work OK but I have had problems with receiving a PM from Joe R earlier this year. I just thought it was my computer but maybe not.
Chris;
I sent you a couple of PM's in the last month and a half. I never got a reply, do you recall getting them? Just wondering.
I sent a PM to Chris regarding not being able to post, so if you see this post, he must have gotten my PM and fixed it. If you don't see this, well, come to your own conclusions.
I see NUTTINK!
