Model T Ford Forum: Forum 2012: Clearing out another one of my also ran T projects

A few years back someone on this forum posted they were looking for a set of window riser gear cases for his 26 closed sedan due to the fact the original cases were made out of die cast and had broken apart but he still had good gears. So I made up a set of cases for him and few extras which I then sold. Then I heard that Jack Daron was already making them also so I dropped the project but I still had people asking for brass ones anyway so I did a few more since Jack's were in aluminum.
Then some guy post on here stating that a simple change to the door and you could use ones found on other T sedans for less then $10 each as he had found so I again put the project to rest.

Then the other day I had a guy call asking for a set of the brass ones so I dragged out all remaining of the raw and semi finished cases and call my late pardoner's son who is now retired and also a machinist like his dad to see if he had time to complete the brass ones and if any ask maybe do the aluminum ones also. So he said he would give it a shot. Since I just don't have the free time to do some of short run projects anymore. So if anyone is still looking for these send me an email and I will put your name down. This is it for this project at least for me.

The two gears sets in front and the original white case were used for machining set ups and final gear mesh checks.

When I starting out Ford listed right and left for these gear assemblies in their parts book which I figure had to do with the mounting holes being in different positions so I made my pattern round to allow for any holes changes since I only had one original case to work from. Later I found out it just had to do with switching the one gear with the worm gear to the opposite side of the case to make it work on the other side.

So when and if these aluminum ones get finished I will grind them back to the correct outer shape like this one.

Some of the first completed ones I did in brass. Original on the bottom left. Bob

Bob,I had some made for myself since they are next to impossible to find. A few folks also wanted some,so we obliged them. Don't let me stand in the way of your project and the very fine work you have done .

Ford had several styles being used in his closed cars in 25,26,&27 so you would just need to look and see the style your car has. This is the style this gear case was used on.

I also have some originals as well as some repops of the crank handles and escutcheons still laying around used in most all the closed sedans for these same years.

Most of the ones with good nickle plating are sold so the remaining ones would need to be renickeled again but these are all brass ones. Ford also had some made in pot metal and aluminum as well. Also have a couple of the special center screws and lock levers still left around too. Bob
