Anyone know what it was?
I just read about it in the Smithsonian Magazine.
No cheating until Art looks it up.

That’s a little to easy Herb – just go here . . .
http://www.google.com/advanced_patent_search
and type in 1000000 in the patent number box.

Patent number: 1000000
Filing date: Apr 25, 1910
Issue date: Aug 8, 1911

Technically the 1000000th patent issued was #990043 as 9957
patents were issued before the present numbering system began.

‘Utility’ patents are the only class to reach the million mark.

Art

And under the heading of patent information you will never need, I give you . . .

The last ‘Utility’ patent issued to date was #8336111, issued Dec 18, 2012,
but tomorrow (Dec 25, 2012 - yes even on Christmas day) will see the
last number issued for 2012 as there are no more Tuesdays this year.

Art
