I have a 1924 coupe. The steering gear case is entirely different than what is on our 1926 runabout and all others I've looked at. What type of steering gear case is this? Also, how do you open it to check the grease? I don't see a spot for a little screw. Steering gear case

That is an aftermarket locking gear case. Besides the key there will be a pin some where to remove it. Good luck.

Very helpful. I see the two pins on each side (about 9 oclock and 3 oclock). Now, is there a trick to "unlocking" the wheel? What does that mean?

I think I figure it out. The lock is depicted in the 6 o'clock position in this picture. I don't have one of those locks. Hopefully, that means the pins at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions can be easily tapped out from the underside. Foxx lock

You only have the bottom half of the lock. The half that would have locked the steering wheel is missing from your unit so it is unlocked. Once you get the pins out you should be able to spin that accessory piece off. Good Luck!

BTW Dan, As always, great research on the accessory lock.
