Can any T'rs out there tell me anything about the Crystal Timer that gets advertised every month on the forum. Is it any good or just another gadget? Thx. Jim

I have one and it looks very good. I have not installed it, but met the seller in Maine. One elderly gent told me he used the same timer for over 20 years and drove his car a lot. The non contact area is glass and the contact area is copper. These are both very hard material that never wears out. The ring is pot metal and that material absorbs water and expands slightly. The ring has to be reduced about 1/16th inch all around to fit in the engine cover. This reduction only has to be for about 1/8th inch into the ring and is not difficult to do in a lathe.

I run a crystal timer and I think it is one of the best timers out there. No oiling and is self lubricating so far no problems. I like the way the wires connect to it. Moves them out of the way as to not short or rub on anything. The seller in Maine who has these is a great person to deal with.

Thanks for the replies. Yes you are correct that the seller is a good person to deal with. I talked with him via phone a while back and he took the time to tell me about the timer. I am restoring 2 Ts' at this time and will instaal the Crystal timer on them.. Jim
