Ron:

Thanks for the encouragement but my KodaK Program has all but quit me. I can still send some picture by attachments but none by email including posting on here. I have about 25 pictures in my Kodak Easy Share on this tour but I con't bring them up. I have tried and tried to contact Kodak for help but to no avail. If any one wants to get an idea of the type of country we will be driving through in the North Park send me an email. I would be happy to send you pictures.

Fred, I tried tracing the trip and think that your June 28 "Walden WY" should be "Walden CO."

Your correct that was a typo, Walden is in Colorado. It sits in the North Park amd is surrounded by spectacular mountain scenerary on all sides. It is one of my favorite places in the mountains and I try to get up there a couple of times a year. It also has a very good restaurant called the River Rock Cafe. Any one going through Walden should stop.

There are a lot of places to stop, one place to be sure and stop so you can tell your friends asbout is Lava Cliffs. It has a small lake at the base that stays frozen way into the summer. It will still have some ice on it in august, when this picture was taken

A little past Lava cliffs you come to the top of Trail ridge then about 3 or 4 miles past the top is the alpine visitor center. this is a good place to have lunch. Be sure to bring your binoculars so you can watch the elk below the visitor center. This picutre was probably taken sometime in June.

The Huson Family took three of the Ts up to Rattle Snake Lake yesterday. The lake has a very steep climb. I was in low pedal for a long time and so were the others. The weather was its usual mild temperature yesterday, so there were no slick spots and no snow. We did drive through several deer herds. I was busy driving but I did see one back with a real nice rack. I had wanted to make this climb for quite awhile so my Son and Grandson decided to go with me. I wanted to compare this rum with the Passes that the Mohegan Tour will be going over. The Mohegan Passes are much easier.

NEW SNOW:

We recieved 4 inches of snow Tuesday. My daily trip to town for coffee was a little slick. Our average high November Temperature is 50 degrees so this is somewhat of a surprise.

This is two pictures of the snow on our diving board.

The next picture is my coupe sitting the snow when I got back from town.

The next shot is Longs Peak at 14,255 feet and Meeker peak in front You will get a good look at Longs when you are on the Mohegan Tour.

TEMPERATURES:

I have been getting some questions about temperatures on the Search for the Mohegans Tour. Most of the country we will be travelling through will be between 75 and 80 degrees in June (ideal T temperature). The temperatures on Snowy Range, Trail Ridge and Cameron passes that we will traverse can be quite cool. If you decide to register for the tour be sure to bring some warm jackets for these three passes.

The next pictures shows some snow in Rossevelt National Forest near Cameron Pass. I would guess that this is about late June. We will not be able to see this area real well as its south of the pass and higher.

Yesterday My wife, Marilyn and I decided to drive up to Estes Park which is on the route of our first day of the Search for the Mohegan's Tour.

This first picture is the snow beside our drive way.

The next picture is the narrows in Big Thompson Canyon.

The Big Thompson River is pretty well frozen over with a few patches of open water.

There was very few people in down town Estes. I think the ladies are going to like shopping in Estes.

Estes Park

We drove on through Estes after shooting a few pictures and went on into Rocky Mountain National Park. If you look at the center peak with the snow at the top you will see Ranbow Curve. Rainbow Curve is half way to the top. Its a little over 2 miles above see level. This is a very good opportunity for photos.

The Department of Interior closes Trail Ridge at Many Parks Curve.

This will also be a good place for the tour people to take shots.
Many Parks Curve 2

Some girls had climbed to the top of these rocks to get pictures of Moraine Park.

On the way back down we stopped in a few spots to take photos of Bull Elk

When we got back to Estes we walked around town for awhile. We took some pictures of a couple of cow elk wondering around the town square. People on the tour will probably get a good chance to photograph elk in town or going over Trail Ridge.

What great pictures & they brought back wonderfull memories of three summers in the 1960's & time spent in The Rocky Mountain National Park at the glacier basin camp ground. The trip up trail ridge road in a 1967 International Harvestor Travell All (4 apeed Manual Shift) was a great experience. The looks on the faces of our two young (ages 5 & 7) children as they observed the mountains & the wildlife were incredible. Thanks again for the pix they caused some tears of joy

When we got to Estes we found the sidewalks empty. I don't think there were 20 people visiting the stores. Usually Estes is wall to wall people.

We continued on through town and into Rocky Mountain National Park. We Passed two large herds of Elk. The Bulls were all in one herd and the cows in another herd. Both herds were in Sheep Meadow where you can usually see rocky mountain Sheep but none were to be seen. From Sheep Meadow you can see Rain bow Curve which will be a good place for photos. Its near the top on the middle peak where the snow is. It is 2 miles above sea level. When you are at Rain Bow Curve you will be half way to the top.

Rain Bow Curve

After the tour travels up Trail Ridge you will see some of the Peaks.

In the winter you can only drive up Trail Ridge to Many Parks Curve. It is still a spectacular drive. This will be the first overlook for the Search for the Mohegan Tour.

stop

From this overlook you can see a long ways. The white flat spots are not lakes they are huge meadows called Parks in this part of the country.

On the way down we saw many bull elk. They are a little harder to pohotograph becasue they tend to move away from you. We also saw some large herds of cow elk on the way back to Estes. When we got to Estes we walked around town for awhile and photographed a couple of cow elk in the town square. Last August when the Tulsa Club was in Estes there must have been a dozen cows lieing in the square on the grass.

bull elk 1

We must have been within 12 feet of the two cow elk. They didn't pay much attention to us at all. I hope when the tour goes through Estes that people get to see some of the elk

Thanks for the post, I hope the people on the Search for the Mohegans Tour enjoy the scenary as much as your family did. This tour will have 5 days of excellant Scenary, not only the peaks but I also like North Park with all its huge cattle ranches. I often thought that someone should put on a national hub tour at Steamboat Springs.

This is a picture of Grouse which I think is near Sasratoga or Riverside.

Dave,
my daughter and son-in-law honeymooned in Estes Park last September, and were serenaided by the bull elk bugling! It's beautiful country! Unfortunately, my family is headed to the east coast in June so my 85 year old mother can visit her sister. Our next major T-tour will have to be in 2008.

Dave
That is an interesting pair of center-doors in one of the pictures. Are they yours????
My two sons, Jeff and Luke are somewhere on the tour also. Jeff is driving a green 27 roadster and Luke is with some of that "Texas T Parts" bunch out of College Station Texas.
PS They have an interesting day by day posting of their trip from College Station and completing it as they return home. You can excess them thru the club vender listing and click on Colorado tour.
