I am new to this forum and want to thank all for the valuable information found here.

My 12 year old son recently received a 1913 Touring for his birthday. As a pround dad, I am trying to help him (and have fun) in restoring the car.

The engine clearly has been worked on many times and has a mixture of parts from different years. The timing gear cover is not what I expected and does not match up with various pictures and catalogs for reproduction parts. The cover does not have a recess for the timer felt, rather it has a journal cast/machined in the cover to make the felt captive by the camshaft. It does not appear that I can "slip" a felt over the camshaft and use a brass shield. Is this cover off of a much later T? Thanks in advance.

Its an early cover. You'e OK. It takes a different felt. The ones sold by the parts houses for this type don't fit well so you'll have to improvise.

Thanks. That was what I was hoping for.
