I'm thinking about buying a set of wire wheels (30x3 1/2) for my T. Just curious about the pros and cons having had wires on sports cars many years back. How do T wires hold up ?---any problems keeping them true ?----breaking spokes ? ---loosening unexpectedly ?----any specifics to be wary of ? ----opinions on new manufacture wire wheels ? ----------thanks
I would like to ad more questions on this subject. What are the wire wheels worth? How much are the hubs worth you need to use with some wheels to mount them to your car? We are doing a 26 touring and want to put wires wheels on it when done and need to know more about the wheels they used back then. We will going with used wheels because of the expense of new reprodution wheels.

Bob, condition dictates price, but the hubs generally sell for $75 and up apiece. The wheels go for $50ea. and up depending on condition.
The new wires made by mcclaren are very nice, though pricey. There really is no downside to a new set of wires other than the price. They do stay true, and are very strong and safer than wood. I run Buffalo wires on my touring, but they are original and have their wear showing. You cannot go wrong with the new wires, and old or original ones will be hard to find that are still true.
Take a look at the classified section to get a idea what wire wheels are going for. I think that buying all new wire wheels puts you time and money ahead.
