I am putting on the top hold down irons (brackets?) that are used when the top is folded back. These are the "L" irons at the back of the touring on the left and right sides (see picture). My question is, Which is correct - the 5/8" diameter smaller one or the 3/4" diameter larger one? Thanks.

The ones on my March 1915 Touring are 5/8" diameter.

Bob,

The quick answer -- Royce is correct: 5/8" diameter -- that is the size the top saddles part #3314BX 1913 to 1922 are designed to fit.

The longer question: Where did you find the 3/4" diameter ones? I.e. were they on an original T? If so -- perhaps they were a variation or something new to research further.

Were they in a T parts pile? If so -- probably they looked like a T and were not necessarily for a T. (NRS Ford Parts sometimes wind up in T parts piles because they look similar but when the folks go to use them they don't quite fit or they point in the wrong direction (manifolds for example).

Thanks to all.

Hap,

They were in my stash of top parts. Mine originally had 5/8" but I was led to believe that the 3/4" were for the early cars.

As you say, these could have come from anywhere and may not even be T at all.

Again, Thanks to all - I will install the 5/8" ones. Wait 'till you see the trick turn signals I made to hang off of these brackets. More later.
