Here is a little article you can take with a grain of salt.

I'm curious - what did Mr. LeFever do to his car to get 100 HP?

... apparently ... and I quote ...

Le Fever's speedster had 100hp, rather than the Model T's customary 20. Its transmission, wheels, chassis, frame and radiator all came from 1921. But it also had some non-original parts, including Model A cranks and rods, an overhead valve unit built for 1920s dirt-track racing and dual carburetors from the 1930s.

Garnet, if that is true, then it WASN'T a fair fight, but not in the way they'd have you think. The spare tire on that Hummer probably weighs more than the entire speedster.......

I was there and saw it myself. The T had a Rajo head, A crank & twin carbs. The Hummer tried twice to beat the T but couldn't. Neither could the Indiana State Police patrol car!

That "hummer" aint nothing but a Gmc Yukon chassis with a boxy body on it.Junk.
Get a H1 Hummer, the only real Hummer, and compare again.

I ran into an outfit that was building the HumVW a few years ago. They said the Hummer had the worst power to weight ratio of any new car. They said their HumVW would run circles around it. It was not near as ugly, either.

From what they say, it was a pretty long, steep hill. With the gas tank under the seat, Model T's frequently ran out of gas on long inclines when the gravity fed carburetor was higher than the gas tank. Did the T go up the hill backwards to keep from running out of gas half way up? That would have really impressed everyone. Ha! Jim

See the posting on this site titled...

That is the car in question.

The owner said it's an early 1928, alloy steel crank, used for only a short time before the more "common" A cranks came to be. I don't exactly know what the differences are, but, that's what he told me.
