The hub is worn out so I bought new bushings and bolt for it. While I was looking at a way to machine it to press in the new bushings, I notice what looks like a ring of lead on the back end of the brass pulley. Now, that makes me think the bushings are soldered into place. Can anyone confirm this?

Yes,or at least on mine and a '13 I fixed they are.I believe they were made this way for two reasons possibly:To have the option of replacing it in the event of wear, and to have a chamber for grease to be for lubrication. It would be easier to cast the pulley in two peices rather than have a complicated core pattern for a fan pulley.I have no way of confirming my thoughts, just an educated guess.
The rear piece I removed in both pulley assemblies were cast bronze and identical.
