What's a Warford look like or does it have a name on it? I bought a homemade tractor today at an auction.
It does have an engine, transmission, auxiliary tranny and TT rearend.
Haven't got it home yet. Got 5 days to raise the $60.00. :>)

Robert,
Both my cast iron Warfords have the name cast into the right side. Theres a very good description of the Muncie, Jumbo-Giant and Warford transmissions with mechanical drawings of same on the "other site" www.modelt.org/ but I hear they are having some problems accessing some of their info. I previously saved this 14 page treasure trove of information to my 'Favorites'. If you can't find it, email me and I'll send it to you. BTW, Congratulations on your purchase - make a TT out of it ! . . .. george

Both, the aluminum and cast iron Warfords have the name on the case in great big letters.

Muncies sometimes do and sometimes don't. Muncies were also sold under license as Wards Gear Shift and Riverside. The name on these is much smaller than on a Warford and is often obscured by a coating of grease near the top cover/gearcase joint.

Jumbo Giant and Chicago transmissions also have their names big as life on the side of the case.

Post a photo and we'll tell you what you've got.

Heck, test us with a photo of just the shifter and the top of the case. Many of us can make a pretty good guess just from seeing that.

Eric..Here's 2 photos of the auxiliary unit This thing has 19" tires. I've never seen 19" on a T model.

Well, it isn't a Warford transmission.

I would think if the nipple were removed in the second picture, the type on the side of the case might be a clue.

It looks like it was meant to be mounted on the pads cast into the sides of the case.

Sincerely

Jim Weir

That one appears to be some other brand, modified to fit. I don't recognize it.

There's one just like it on eBay right now:

I brought this post up to the top because of the "extra" transmission that is pictured. I had bought and engine and "parts pile" sometime ago, and having finally gotten around to the pile I have found this same transmission in the pile. It is all set up for a model T driveline, and I was wondering if anyone knew what exactly it was from?

Just above it was mentioned as a transmission for a Chevrolet 490. I maybe mistaken, but I remember the transmission for the 490 as being longer with the gearshift towards the rear, and without the mounting ears. Any help on identifying this transmission would be helpful.

By the way,I got it running. Soaked the exhaust valves with PB Blaster for a couple of days and beat them with a brass hammer. I think it's a 20 with 2 valve plates but can't read the serial number very well.It purrs like a kitten. Has anyone seen this spring setup on the tierods? Cost so far..$11.00.
