Has anyone had any experience with the aluminum magnet spools sold by the vendors. These are the parts that go under the magnets and the brass screw goes through. Are they good quality or are they to be avoided.
Thanks, Lynn

I always replace used aluminium magnet spools with the reproductions spools. I have never had a problem with this repo part.

I was never happy with them..the ones I used receintly were longer than original .Enough so that the new screws when snugged before checking magnets for level were about 1/32 below the ring gear hole nothing to peen.GURRR! So I just hammered my magnets down till I was able to have enough brass screw showing that I felt it was enough to peen. Broke 3 magnets ,,replaced them and recharged all the magnets again one at a time on the flywheel , for I felt wailling on them(Pretty hard with a lead hammer) as I did would not help the magnitisum. All the he spools have one hell of a step in them now.The old spools look cast and new ones seem a softer extruded bar stock.
I'm sure someone else would spending time remachining the spools to a smaller size or make longer screws or something?
It would be easier to use old ones next time and I rather shim a few up than beat all the magnets dowm so much .

Magnet spool spacers were made in different materials. I prefer the brass spools as they do not deteriorate and can be easily reused. If the magnet mounting steps are pronounced just turn them over placing the step on the flywheel perimeter. Original cast aluminium spools deteriorate badly and will simply crumble when reused. I always replace them and have had no trouble with the reproduction aluminium spools currently available from Lang's.

Oct 06, I had two magnet keepers let go inside the tranny. Rebuilt the magneto using the parts that Lang's sell.(keepers, spools and screws) Have not had a problem since.
