I am using Mel Miller's plans for the woodwork on a 1925 Roadster. I have followed his plans fairly closely and have the side panels attached. However, I am a little confused on where to attach the wood cross piece across the back of the gas tank. Does the wood sit on the lower wooden supports, or does it actually rest on the seat frame itself? Is the seat frame where the cushion sits lined with wood? Any pictures you could add of this area would be especially helpful.
This picture gives you an idea of what I'm asking about. Do I need a layer of wood around the inside top of my seat frame? What is my next step?
Here's a pic of my '24...

Richard, would you mind taking a few pictures of your 25 T seat wood assembled? (from front, side, and back). I am having trouble with the wood as well. Thanks and any pictures would be very beneficial.
Sincerely. Ryan
Chuck, would you mind sending me a few more pictures of the wood seat frame. I am having the same issue. Also, How do you mount the 3 vertical braces and the 2 side braces onto this main back wood piece. Thanks and please send them to ryan.miller@suntrust.com when you get a chance. I could really use them. Thanks
Here are some pictures that might help (use the link below). They are not my car but someone sent them to me sometime ago.
One thing I don't see in your pictures is the tool box. The 25 body was unique and had a storage area behind the gas tank.

Thanks Alan. These are very helpful.
Ryan, here are some pictures from a 25 roadster a friend and I did. We used a wood kit from Snyders, which had no instructions showing the seat back area. DISCLAIMER: I tried to get some pictures of wood for this area and got many of the same links given here, unfotunately none show the back seat wood. So this is how we did it- this is not original, rather what we did with the parts supplied with the kit.
This first picture shows the wood on the outside of the sides of the metal seat pan. This has a mortis and tennon joint to the vertical member at the rear of the door areas, and is screwed to the side metal pieces. This should stick above the side metal to provide a place to tack upholstery.
This second picture shows how we did the seat back, again this is our "best guess" not necessarily correct, but it has worked so far.
The bottom board is bolted to the steel brackets at the rear of the metal seat frame. the three vertical pieces are bolted to the rear of this bottom board. At the top they are bolted against the top lip of the back panel. The nuts are countersunk into the wood tack strip that sits on the outside at the top of the panel. There is also horizontal strip tieing the 3 vertical boards together about 2/3 of the way up, which is on the back of the vert. pieces.
I hope this is of some help, Jim
Jim, thanks. One question on the top photograph. The metal sides of the seat (attached to wood) seem to be free hanging. I saw a curved bracket with 4 holes for bolts at Alan Woolfs link above and was wondering if you can buy these brackets. I have been collecting parts awhile and don't believe that I have stumbled across this bracket. Is this a "homemade" fabricated bracket or has anyone seen these? Thanks, Ryan
Ryan, I don't know of anyone reproducing those brackets. They are in my 25 roadster and I plan on making a couple more. They hold the back of seat together.
Does anyone know if I can buy these curved seat back brackets anywhere or will I have to fabricate them myself? Any direction or alternative is greatly appreciated.
Thanks. Ryan
Ryan, the brackets are there, just don't show up well with everything painted black. I'll post another picture. The owner of the car has some remains of a 25 touring which may have these brackets on it, I will try to check it out today and see if he would part with them. Jim
Thanks Jack and Jim. Even if I can borrow, make the brackets, and return the originals I would be happy with that. Please let me know his plans. Thanks for the advice. Ryan
Ryan, sorry I didn't get back to you on this. I went and checked his parts car, but it's bad news. It doesn't have these brackets as it is a touring. The end of the seat pan sides is riveted to a toe kick panel for the back seat. Sorry I can't help you out, his roadster is upholstered now so it would be hard to even get measurements. I hope someone else can help you out with this. Jim
