Model T Ford Forum: Forum 2005: Rubber Door bumpers on a '26 Ford Roadster

I understand that the holes on the latch side of the roadster doors was for a door bumper to stop rattiling. I also understand that these bumpers are not currently being remade.
I have learned that a lot of Model T items carried over into the Model A and I am wondering if the rubber door bumpers for a '28-'29 Model A roadster would fit backwards into my '26.
Also, I am getting ready to replate the door handles on my '25 Coupe and have learned that the center of the the handle had a hard rubber insert in it as opposed to black paint as I always thought it had.
Question: Where do you find this rubber insert and how do you install it?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Joe R.

Tinkerin' Tips suggested using black eletrician's tape in the door handles. When it gets tacky looking peel it out and replace. John

I just use a little nickel-sized "blob" of black silicone rubber on the hinge on my '23 roadster and it works great, and you don't even notice it. That is, unless uour a "purest" like I'm not.

I put a tire patch, cut to shape, on the striker, door hasn't rattled since, definetly not a purist, they're blue.

For the door handle you may want to try Chaffin's, they have a lot of handles & may have the inserts, trouble with hard rubber, it oxidizes & turns brown (the t shaped handles on my '22 coupe, which are all hard rubber with nickle tips, are coffee color, I like it}. You may also try a tobbaconist that sells & repairs pipes (some pipe stems are still made from vulcanite (hard rubber}they may have a source for stock & using a Dremel tool make your own or on a whim they may offer to make them for you.

I have the Model A bumpers on both my roadster and my touring. They work just fine, and keep it from rattling.

Joe,

FYI - The original door handles for the 25 coupe did not have a hard rubber insert. The handles with the hard rubber insert are the late 26 - 27 - Model A closed cab pickup handles. The correct handles for the 25 coupe look similar but would have a metal black nickel plated insert. They are unique to the 25 - early 26 model years.
