Getting ready to install a new top (it's only been sitting in the box for 5 months) on the 26 & would like a boot, does anyone have a pattern or know where I can get one. The one I have only covers the top itself & not the bows, from original photos I've seen the boot seems to cover & the bows.
Thanks,
Alex
Ford included top boots with cars through 1922, as far as I know. I haven't found any information that they had any boots from 1923-5. In 1926 and '27 they offered them again, but as an option on the sport touring and roadster. I believe Macs offers a boot, but I'm not sure.
A few years back I bought a boot from Lang's for a 25 touring. Fits very nice and is well made. I believe the price was $160.
I rebuilt an old set of touring irons, then followed the directions that came with the set of straight bows. I put the top on and have been running it for the past 2 years. My wife bought me a boot for Christmas, and I got around to trying to put it on this Summer. It's too narrow. I tore one side trying to fit it. Since I tore it, I can't return it. A local upholsterer is in the process of making a new boot for me, using that one as a pattern. I may fix the tear, and sell it as slightly damaged. I have to assume my top bows were all too long, or the boot was too narrow. I've not seen a measurement for either.

Noel, The one I have is also narrow & a little sloppy at the same time, which is why I'd like to get some of the Cartouche material from Mac's & have the upholsterer who's coming to the house to install the new top, make one that fits, also thinking of adding piping on the seams to match the body color.

The new material that Macs sells is right on. A ready made boot is a trial and error thing. As I recall, the bows on my '13 were 55". Well, all that was available at the time were either 54" bows or 56". I opted for the 56" bows. How is a supplier supposed to know that! With the later bows, you don't have that problem. Ford boots did have welt around the seams, at least until 1922. I don't know about the '26-7s, since I've never seen one.
Turns out the upholsterer lives about a mile from me. He just left the house, he critized the the Cartouche Top saying there was more fabric than was needed, He lined up the visor with the existing & there was at least 4" over, but he'd fix it. Showed me photos of some of his work, Packards, Cadillacs etc. great. I'm driving over to his place on Saturday so he can do the installation.
Told me the boot would be no problem, just get the material.
