I'm thankful I don't have to work for a Model T dealership Service Manager that held me to the flat rate Time Studies in the green Model T Service Manual. Three hours, 28 minutes to overhaul a differential (page 154). Did this last year and it took me 2 1/2 weeks. Spent all day yesterday installing an engine by myself and - for the 1st time in 30 years - stabbed the transmission tail shaft with the U joint in just a few minutes!! Page 90 of the Service Manual said I should've taken 42 minutes for the entire installation. Tried the old 9/16 box end-with duct-tape-holding-the-bolt-for-the-left-motor-mount trick only to get my wrench stuck between the bolt head and bottom of the top frame rail. So I got to spend nearly an hour monkeying around to retrieve it. Yep, glad I didn't have to do this for a dealership job in the day and can enjoy the sheer recreation of T Model problem solving. . . Happy Thanksgiving !
I've been there! On more modern vehicles anyway. Right after the Army, I was working for the local Ford dealer. I had truck in there that had very simple warranty problem. It just took the better part of a week to figure out what it was. When it was all over and done with, the job paid something like an hour. Thankfully, the shop foreman (On salary) had done a couple of jobs that week and gave me his hours. Else we would have been eating pinto beans and cornbread all next week.
