One of the last posts for last year dealt with using a punch to remove the timing/fuel lever pins. Got me to thinking about the different kinds of punches. I can think of a few. Roll pin, drive pin, starting, drift, center, and prick punch. To remove the timing or fuel lever pin I would use a slightly undersized roll pin punch. BTW I also have a set of punches from Harbor Fright that have held up quite well.

Those pins should come out fairly easy. They may be peined over tho. Swipe a small file across the stub and make them hot with a torch. Have a helper back it up with a piece of pipe or itll only bounce around. Honest! troop

Most of you I’m sure know this, but just in case . . .
The correct way to remove a solid straight pin that has not been peened over
is to use a taper punch slightly smaller than the pin to get it started, and
then use a straight (pin) punch as close as possible to the pin size to drift it out.

If you hold a pin punch by the center of its small diameter against a solid
piece of steel and hit it a sharp blow, you will feel where the energy is wasted
by the shock that hurts your thumb and forefinger. Try the same thing holding
a taper punch near the center of the taper and notice the difference
Good heavy support (with room for the pin) under the part insures little of the
energy of the hammer blow is wasted.
A matched pair of taper and pin punches will have nearly the same diameter at the tip.

I was the one who initiated the "punch" line on the 2012 forum. In trying to remove the throttle arm from the shaft, I had trouble locating the pin in the lever, so I used my best judgement and drilled a hole through it. I won't know until I try to drive what is left of the pin out of the lever and shaft, whether I drilled in the correct place.

BTW, As seen on TV, I saw the Jelf E-Waterpump. TV pitch man claims an increase of horsepower to 80 HP; an increase of speed to 80 MPH; cooling of the coolant to 80 degrees; and a bunch of other ridiculous claims that I can't remember.
