I have an exercise for you to accomplish on Google Earth. ID a vehicle traveling on the road. If you are not familiar with Google Earth… you’ve got some learning to do.

I love to use the feature of Google Earth where you can scroll down and travel along a road and turn the scene 360°.
If you do not have Google Earth get it free at
http://download.cnet.com/google-earth/ (Dial-up may not do it)
I like to use CNET for downloads when possible because they don’t have a bunch of extras to un-check.
Now the assignment…
This is on a highwy west of Newtown, OH (Greater Cinti.) where I grew up.

In the little search box on Google Earth type in
5352 Batavia Rd, 45244 (you can copy/paste) and click search icon.
Scroll the area down until the roadway is an interactive 360ٖ° roadway scene.
Roll the highway forwards or backwards until you see a yellow antique.
THOSE UNFAMILIAR WITH G EARTH MIGHT WANT TO PRINT THIS.

That looks like a 31 A Shay replica. Had one with a Ford Pinto chassis... troop

Not sure if I'd call it an antique- it's a Shay aka glorified Pinto.

You can also do this using Google Maps, which is how I found it. Since Google maps became more interactive, I've taken Google Earth off my computer.

I stumbled onto this on google map last year:



It's an Alaska Airlines 737-900 on takeoff from Reno. It looks to be on top of the buildings, but would be at least 200 feet in the air. The pic was old, as a friend at Alaska said they had dropped jet service to Reno a few years before.

Google Maps is what I may be using and it is labeled Google Earth on my Start menu. I just tried to download Google Maps and ran into all kinds of pop-ups and scary things.
I was too concerned to proceed.
I will stick with the Google Earth... it gives me the road travel and the 360° feature.

Troop, interesting point. If you could zoom the picture out to include the shadow of the plane, you could probably use the other shadows to calculate the plane's altitude (leaving aside, of course, that it would be a lot of work to get some totally useless information).

Note the fuselage shadow on the left wing root.

Rick may be correct. The area of the anomaly is less than ½ from Oceana Naval Air Station and the Jet must be about to land.

the Shay had a gas cap just behind the driver's door.
There were others.
There was one on an International Scout chassis too, I think made in Florida.
Plus, you can buy fiberglass bodies & put on anything.
