Haven't been able to find one on the parts suppliers websites, and I want to be sure to install my springs correctly. If it's a plate bracket, the flat should face the outside. Just want to be sure I've got the springs on the axle facing the right way! Thanks!
By Mark Gregush Portland Oregon on Friday, January 04, 2013 - 11:50 am:No that is not correct. Looks like a bolt going through the bottom tank on the radiator holding that plate. The license plate bracket mounts to the bracket holding the spring to the cross member.

The only brackets on the radiator at the bottom will be the ears that mount it to the frame. Even if you are building a speedster you still would not want something going through and hanging off the bottom tank like that. Even just the license plate will cause flexing and will soon develop a leak. I trust there is a tube soldered in that lower tank, it should not be there if it is. If there is a tube you will have to live with it or get it fixed.
By Dan Treace, North FL on Friday, January 04, 2013 - 12:43 pm:Think that that non-Ford bracket is part of a 'steady-steer' accessory, where springs or rods went to stabilize the tie rod for steering.
You should remove that.
Only the spring bolt in the center should be under the main leaf.
The license bracket fits to the front crossmember engine bearing/clip.
By David R Barker on Friday, January 04, 2013 - 12:59 pm:It may be a steering accessory bracket; not sure as I didn't disassemble it. Probably why I haven't been able to find any information on it. Nothing I've been able to find shows how it would mount to anything, really. Thanks for the help.
By Jim Thode Chehalis Washington on Friday, January 04, 2013 - 01:05 pm:Maybe it was used to hold the springs when painting. Looks like it would have to be removed for the spring to be installed. The "B" part in the above image fits where the bracket is.
