Anyone here see the red with black fenders 13 touring on Craigs list yesterday? It was gone when I got home and I would like to congratulate the new owner. I was at work when I saw the ad and noticed the Fronty head, Ruxtell and Speedometer. Dang looked like a deal to me. Would likely be a driver just the way it sat!!
My Dad's old '13 Red Touring was on there a few weeks ago for a very low proce...said it had a blown head gasket? Ad is now gone, Sold?
This '15 Runabout seems like a good deal though...
That was your dad's Bill? Did his have a fronty head? Said it was in whitter?
Scott: The ad that was on Craigs List about a week ago showed a 13 Touring in Whittier for about $11,500 as I recall. It stated that the head gasket was bad but didn't say anything about a Fronty head. My Dad's car had a stock '13 engine. There were 3 photos of 3 different cars in the ad. One was a shot that my dad took of the his car when he owned it.
Neither I nor my Dad "Fast Frank" called the guy so I can't say for sure if it was our old '13 or not. The description did make it sound like the same car & the last known owner did live in Whittier... That's all I know
By the way, it was a very nice & original car with a few neat accessories. AC brakes & Ruckstell.
I used to know a guy here in Torrance with a red '13 touring with a Fronty. Haven't seen the car in years.
I dug through my old emails & found the text from the deleted ad. I have removed the phone number for privacy reasons:
"1913 MODEL T TOURING CAR, 100 YEAR OLD BARN FIND.
GREAT CONDITION, STRAIGHT BODY, 3 OWNERS, CAR COLOR ORIGINAL BLACK AND RED, BRASS HEAD LAMPS, ORIGINAL INTERRIOR, NEEDS HEAD GASKET.
CALL DJ @ (xxx) xxx-xxxx NO TEXT MESSAGES PLEASE. THANK YOU"
That's the one Bill. There was a photo of the engine and you could see the valve cover and the four plugs horizontal in the side of the head. One think that I questioned was it had what looked like a 50"s Chevy Carter Down draft carb.
I haven't seen the car yet, but I know the new owner, and it appears to be the one that I know of. The give away is the front seat folded down. It also had black wood spoke non demountable wheels all the way around.
One of the pictures was a shot of our car taken in Arizona at a "Shootout" put on by Frank Hoils and Dave Parker a few years ago.
Sorry the picture posting system on this site will not let me show any pictures at this time. I get the message that it is not responding.
It sold for $9000.00 before my son could get there.
Here is a photo of our old '13 Touring taken ten years ago with my mom & wife (then girlfriend).
My friend went out today to see the car. It is indeed the car my longtime friend Glenn Sandlin of Torrance, California owned for years. I have many memorable experiences in it, around it, driving it, and touring with it and Glenn. Glenn was kind of an adopted father to me, and I miss him greatly. He had a heart attack in 1988 or 9, and it killed him. I remember when he put the Fronty head on it, and all the wonderful times we had together. I have a few parts from that car in my possession. Glenn found the car in Texas in the late fifties, and brought it up to Torrance, and restored it. RIP.
This is my favorite photo of the '13 in front of the old Vintage Ford Parts in Stanton before they tore down the shopping center:
OK, then it is a different car... Ours was stock. Except for the rear end of course.
I'd say 9,000 is a pretty good deal....
I'd say nine grand is a great price for a 1913 touring, especially if it's in any kind of decent shape, and apparently this one is.
I heard it really sold for $10,500.
