Saw this on Craigslist.

No relation to the sale just wanted to share it.
Looks really good for the price.
Wish it was on the east coast.
Larry
if the add is for real,, what a buy
That is a steal.
Boy, if I had the space and the time...
A deal "too good to be true" in my opinion... worth an inquiry, but I'd be very suspicious of a scam.
Snap it up someone, I do not have the room for another
WTF! man my dad wouldve bought that in a heart beat!
those running board cans are worth that much! ;)
The more I look, the better it gets. It has a Ruckstell and a speedometer.
Steve,
That was my thought and why I posted.
Hope it's on the square.
I hope one of our guys here can get it.
Larry
it also has RM brakes
We don't see bargains like that here.
Peter
We don't see them here either, Peter. That's an amazing deal. Hmmm, if I left early in the morning I could be in Salinas in two and a half days. If only I had the space, and the time...
Steve,
I have the space and the time, and could be there in only 7 hours! Just send me the money and I'll take care of it for you! That's OK, no need to thank me!!!
Bob just told me that he will store it for you, maintain it, and drive it on the weekends!
Thanks. Now I'm going to be sick.
I don't know if I wish I had the money or I am glad I don't? It is about five hours from me if I can avoid rush hour traffic.
I wish I had the money.
I'm sure it is gone all Ready gone. I wish I had bought my 1914 T Runabout that cheap 10 years ago. Nice car.
That would go for around 8000.00 or more at Chickasha if its what it says it is.
The deals are out there if your in the right place at the right time.
Well ...
That explains why I got a call at 9:30 p.m. last night .....
A member from Iowa had seen it and had sent an email but had not heard back .....
FYI
I am picking up a 31' Ford in the Ukiah area and taking it down to the Los Angeles area Saturday ...
I might have room and will be driving by the area.
Jim
Sometimes, an heir inherits something in which he has no interest and so little knowledge that he imagines it to be worth significantly deal less than its true value. If this isn't a scam, then this fellow is in the position of getting scammed, himself. My distance from this car prevents me from going for it, but I'd like to think that, were he more conveniently located, and the car were indeed as represented, that I'd be honest with the man.
So easy for me to take the high road when the bridge is out!
Yea if its really been in the family that long there's a good chance the chassis and engine are correct. Man what a deal. It can't last much longer.
I also sent the poster an e-mail yesterday afternoon and didn't get a response - heck of a deal !
Hey Guys. I am going to look at this manana. I emailed the owner and already told him the price is very reasonable - I want it! But I am second in line with an appointment. Wife and I will report as it happens. Any suggestions?? Thanks in advance! - Dennis
I'm in St Thomas VI and have been trying to contact the lister but I think it has been pulled or the sat. connection is bad here.
I surely would jump at a chance to make an offer. Seems like it may be a very unmolested car.
Good Luck Let me know if the deals fall thru!
Gene
Thanks Gene! Need lots of good Karma right now! Any suggestions gents? - Dennis
Wow. Listing still up at this hour. (7:36 pm Friday night - or 1936 hours for you military and European types).
That's what I paid for my 27 Coupe. Granted, I've sold about $3000 worth of parts that came along with it but still...
I wonder if the lack of response some folks are getting is because they are being overwhelmed with inquiries?
If you notice, that craigslist T has upper and lower front wish bones. It's likely to have other modifications but it still looks like quite a deal for $5,000.
Snag it if you can, Dennis.
I'm all ears gents - Would love any input!!!
Since you asked: TAKE CASH........and plenty of it.
Take cash (maybe hide it in your car for personal safety?). Lock the trailer to a power pole a block or two away to not be so obvious. Have a friend or two with you, both for safety and to sit with the car while you go get the trailer unless you can drive the car to the trailer. At that price, from what I can see, if that is a current photo. I wouldn't care if it didn't have an engine, let alone not run without some work.
Be careful, and good luck! I hope you give the car a good home, keep it for years, and enjoy it. Deals like that should go to someone that will appreciate it.
Drive carefully, and enjoy, W2
"But I am second in line with an appointment. Wife and I will report as it happens"
Being second in line for an appointment to see a bargain car is surely a long shot unless the first appointment doesn't know the value or is a looky-loo, but I am wishing you good luck all the same.
Somebody please buy the 14 and not let it go to some idiot that wants to make a "rat rod"?? out of it!
If the unknowing wants to unload it cheap another unknowing will buy it and really mess it up.
I hope it goes to a nice T home. Please!!!
Somebody bought it. James returned my email and said it was SOLD
So who got it??
I'm getting a strange feeling about this car and one of the new posters here...grin...but I'll leave it at that.
The guy that had it was a James Ricketts. The listing was in Salinas Ca.
Please tell me one of our forum buddies got it.
I'll be mildly and pleasantly surprised if it actually sold...If it did though, I hope someone here got it for sure.
(I) am the (new) guy and I look forward to learning as much as I can from you veterans.
We were second in line today to meet James. The first never showed.
The car is now home with the new caretakers yours truly and my wife Pam. There are some issues that need to be addressed before we can venture out on the country roads. The Carb float appears to be stuck and dumping fuel excessively and upper windshield frame is cracked maybe tweaked causing the glass to break. The car looks mostly complete with tired paint and upholstry, top and metal breaks here and there but no bubbling rust I can see so far.
My background has been mostly 60's Fords, Model A's and some early V8's. I am just a hobby Ford guy. I work in the dental industry for a living.
I would like to thank James for his genuineness. We were witness to his affection and memories in this Tin Lizzie after he drove it onto our trailer and we secured it. I think he just wanted to see it go to a good home. We are going to do our best to get her out on the road for all to enjoy as soon as possible.
I look forward to meeting as many of you folks in person or online soon.
Regards,
Dennis - Near Salinas, Ca.
Dennis,
I replied to the seller immediately I saw the ad. Just got their first response..... "sold".
Glad it has a good home.
Terry
Dennis,
Congratulations to you and Pam....it appears that you acquired a real gem. Best wishes to the three of you for a Happy Future together!

Dennis,
CONGRATS!
I'm glad I saw it and posted.
Keep us updated on your progress.
And welcome to the affliction.
Larry
Congrats, post some pictures so we can all see what you have!
Dennis, Good to hear you got the car! Let me know if you ever get tired of it and it needs another good home. I know that'll be along shot.
Gene in Grand Turk and St Maarten
Very cool and a heck of a deal, well done. Hope you have lots of fun with it in the new year.
Dennis,
Great, congrats!
Had it stayed listed longer, you may have saved a divorce, mine
Keep us posted,
Rob
Congratulations, I think. And welcome to the affliction! I hope you and your wife have many wonderful years enjoying the T together. There is (or was?) a local club in the Salinas area. I should know a few people that belong to it, however I am not close enough to the group to know who offhand. The Santa Clara Valley Model T Ford Club is a great club! I belong to it still even though I now live nearly 200 miles away. They sponsor the SCVMTFC annual Endurance Run and Lowland Tour. It is a great event that sometimes ends up near Salinas. You can link to their web site through this site's home page.
One thing you should check in your new toy, is if the engine is correct for a brass era T. If it has the correct engine, it will also qualify for the Horseless Carriage Clubs. We can be somewhat snobby, but there are a lot of good people and great activities there also. The model T people are the best! Get to know a few.
Drive carefully, and enjoy, W2
I think? I don't understand? Yes - the engine number and the title match mid-year car. Already has Horseless Carrige CA plates. Would love to be introduced to any local folks. Thanks Wayne. If you enjoy Vino - my good friend in Bennett Valley is a top wine maker. Worked for Dry Stack and now on his own. Bevan Cellars - If you like - happy to introduce you. He's quite the entertainer/salesman.
A lot of brass-era Ts have later engines, so owners don't have to crank them. They also have non-period accessories, like Ruckstells, demountable rims, and quartz-halogen bulbs in the lights that are a lot more visible than later engines. To say nothing of distributors, e-timers, water pumps, and all kinds of things that start fights right here in the Model T club. Those cars are welcome on national HCCA tours. Join us, Dennis! We'll be glad to have you!
Gil Fitzhugh, Morristown, NJ, HCCA National Director
Dennis, I always post this link for new Model T owners, so just in case these didn't come with it...

Thanks Steve!
Dennis:
I'm down in Paso Robles and also have a 14 T touring although it may be a few months older than yours. I am so jealous of the fact that you have a TOP on yours.
Bill
Dennis,
Your new toy is a step at a time. Clean it up a bit. Get it running okay. Start shaking out the bugs. Along the way, decide what you want, and what you want out of it. It appears that you got a heck-of-a-deal on a supposedly 1914. (I am not trying to scare you and don't start getting buyer's remorse already.) You got a "can't lose" deal at least. As you move forward, you will want to sort out the car and decide where you want to go.
"Horseless Carriage" is a term that can mean several things. Technically, all automobiles (old and modern) are horseless carriages. The Horseless Carriage Club of America has a moderately strict definition of any car built before January 1, 1916 which must have most of its major components be of proper vintage. Therefore a 1914 model T with say a 1920 engine "technically" does not qualify, however, usually, no one checks that close.
Each regional group of the HCCA is allowed to set their own years of interest and how much they will check or how strict they wish to be. Many regional groups accept cars well beyond 1915, often clear up to 1942. Many groups couldn't care less what year your engine is. Some are more strict than the HCCA itself.
In addition, all states have their rules on historic vehicle licensing. Califunny, assigns Horseless Carriage plates to most cars claimed as 1922 or earlier (for an extra fee, some owners go with standard plates to save that fee or have a few less restrictions) (By the way, don't worry about those restrictions, they exist almost in name only).
The Ruckstell two speed rear axle is a very desirable item. The Ruckstell was not available till well after 1916 so "technically" it is not HCCA compatible, however many of them show up on HCCA tours. They are therefore a personal choice. My '24 coupe has one. I have never had one on a brass era T.
If you find that the engine is not a true '14 engine, do not fret about it. Drive and enjoy the car. Pre-'16 engines are getting a bit pricey, but they are available if you want one. And it can be changed at your convenience sometime down the road. As I said (was that yesterday?), If I had the money for that car, at that price, "I wouldn't have cared if it had an engine, let alone not run without some work"
I really like the Santa Clara Model T Ford Club. And I really like the Bay Area Horseless Carriage Club Regional Group for the HCCA (a fairly strict group). But I recommend getting to know some people close to you. Both clubs have local groups based in the Salinas area. I don't have rosters for those groups, but both can be contacted through their collective club home pages (HCCA.org for the HCCA).
I hope to see you on a tour soon! What am I saying? I hope to see me on a tour soon! It has been a couple years, way too long. See you soon I hope!
Drive carefully, and enjoy, W2
Seeing it has a Ruckstell, be sure it has wheel brakes connected to the foot pedal. The Ruckstell theoretically cannot go into neutral, but it happens, leaving you with no transmission brake.
Enjoy it.
Great tip - I will have to look at that today. Safety first as they say.
