I was wondering how many members were in the MTFCA the first full year in 1966. Also how many current members are there now. I have seen that at least 30,000 different members have belonged at some time over the last 47 years,
Thanks

That's an interesting question. I'm #17004
in the MTFCI. Joined in 1980 I think.

I didn't know we had MTFCA numbers.

Thanks. I finally joined the club in June 1999 and my # is 22,295. I see about 5000 joined between 1980 and 1999.

I'm too old to remember when I joined but my membership number is 601. Bought my first car in '53 and the Ford we have now has been in the family 52 years. My first car was a '26 Coupe.

If you fellows would look at your address label when your Vintage Ford comes, you will find your number, I still have the 26 TT I purchased in High School in 54 and pd for till 61 at .25cents/per/hr, forking manu-- out of the dairy barns. restored it 99 per cent in 1974-5-6, not done yet

I think I actually joined in the early 1980's, member no. 12354. It was a requirement that you be a member to go on a MTFCA National Tour. The earliest National MTFCA Tour I went on was the one in Fulton, MO in 1983. Dad had been a member since the mid to late 1960's. His number was 1550. At that time he joined, I was 14-15 years old. A friend of mine was relating to me the other day that back in the 1950's, people kinda thought that "children" under 18 or 21 could/should not belong to an organization. Their parents needed to belong for them. That thought seemed to start going away in the 1960's. I received a membership in the "other" Model T club (MTFCI) as an incentive from my folks for making the honor roll in 9th grade in 1968. So, I had the MTFCI covered and dad had the MTFCA membership. We traded magazines back and forth. At that time, there were no chapters of either club close enough for us to belong to so we never really got excited about each of us belonging to both. Dad passed away in 2001. Now, I'm proud to say the third generation of Shirk's are members of the MTFCA with our daughter being a member (no. 28284). She's the local Chapter Sec/Treas AND a Model T owner! Look for her to be at the Sunflower State Crankers Winter Clinic in a couple of weeks. She is playing an important part in the Rear Axle topic being presented at the Clinic. If you want to see youth active in the MTFCA, here's your chance!

Here's the thing: Not sure if they "retire" old #'s or just keep going up with new members.

Judging from the numbers it looks like that the old numbers were not reused. Each new member was assigned the next number not used.

The MTFCA was formed December 12, 1965.

According to the President's Column in Vintage Ford Vol. 2 No. 1 (January-February 1967) "the membership is way over the thousand we had hoped for...."

Les Henry is mentioned as member number 1000.

If you wanted to get a definitive number of members for year-end 1966, I presume that information would be in the 1966 annual report for the club. You should be able to obtain a copy by contacting the board of directors.

I just became a member in Dec 2012 and I am #30697. In the letter with it was clear: "... your membership number, which is issued in numerical order as new members join."

The closest club is a hour and a half away and unlikely that I will become active. The main reason I joined was because I enjoy this forum. I really appreciate all the help and insight posted here.

Matthew

I'm member #4661, and Life member L232. I think I joined in 1968, but my memory is a bit fuzzy on the date. My first Twas a '27 Fordor and I still have it.

Model T's forever....
