Back when my beloved and I were pre-20 and before we met, she spent six months in Malaysia about the time I spent nearly a year in New Zealand. We had a great holiday to Malaysia in 2007 and next winter it's going to be New Zealand!
We can go for 2-3 weeks anytime in early November to mid-December 2013 or January-February 2014.
I've had a look at the MTFCNZ website and there are no events listed beyond this month... looking for suggestions about an event, preferably a multi-day tour, we could enjoy during our visit.
Picture below is from 1973. I had no Model T adventures back then but that's me at the wheel of "Noddy's Car" somewhere on the North Island.
The national model t rally runs yearly and is normally the last weekend in January. Next year it is in Palmerston North (lower north island) be sure to come to the South Island as well.
I would very much like to go to a tour down under, but at the moment my wallet is limiting the trip. I have been to Pert and Western Australia on a business trip but a T tour would be great as long as I do not have to drive on the wrong side of the road.
One of our MTFCA forum contributors from New Zealand sent my wife and I some great information and suggestions concerning visiting NZ. I'd prefer not to post his name on this, but if you would lke to send a PM I'll send you his contact information.
Sounds like a great trip, good luck,
Don't we drive on the right side of the road lol
and our leavers on the column are round the wrong way for you guys.
Lots to do it you come at the right time - Lots of Vintage Car Club events around the Christmas/New year period in Canterbury. www.vcc.org.nz
Let us know the planned route and we can put you in touch we heap of people her in NZ.
Looking forward to see you.
ps. National T Rally is over the Friday/Saturday/Sunday and sometimes an extention rally of a couple of days as well. Not sure whats planned for Palmerston North.
We'll be pleased to see you. My "snail mail" address on the back inside cover of the "Vintage Ford". There are more than one or two events on somewhere in the country each weekend, mostly through the Vintage Car Club, and you would be made welcome. Check the VCCNZ website. The Palmerston North Rally should be a beauty as it will be a celebration of the twentieth anniversary of the founding and first run for the MTFCNZ which was held in and around Palmerston North. There is a Ford T run in the Waikato near Hamilton on the last weekend of November every year which usually attracts 40 or more entries. It's an well run casual event. I think the clowns in the "Noddy Car" are at Splash Planet in Hastings, Hawke's Bay, agood place for entertaining kids both old and young.
Plan your trip well because the country is in two islands and it is an extra cost with ferries if you would be going back and forward between the two.
Jan / Feb weather is much more settled than Nov / Dec.
Thanks all for the replies and information.
Rob, PM sent. Simon, Rob and Gavin, sounds like January is the time to be there. Can't wait!
PM sent to you Chris.
Make sure you go to the "Southward Museum",near Wellington, see it on www.southwardcarmuseum.co.nz. We were there a couple of years ago and the collection is stunning.
Late January is time for the 60th Dunedin to Brighton Run. It is the longest running rally for pre 1919 vehicles in the Southern Hemisphere. I just finished the 59th
If that link doesn't play, click on news and you'll find the rally story (I hope).
Thanks for the link, Ian. I've added it to my list of museums containing at least one old Ford.
Luke Dahlinger has the list on his site, but I can't find the address.
Thanks, Nevin, for the info and link. Sounds like a great event. Andrew, PM returned (I feel I need to tell you as it seems mine often don't go through).
Ian, I visited the Southward back in 1973. It was there I saw a vehicle that has haunted me with unfulfilled desire ever since.
