Just wondering?????
When did the most recent(known)Ford fracture caused by incorrectly starting a (Model T), happen?
Surely somebody on here would know.

Michael

Are you really ghoulish?

Maybe those that get injured just won't speak up, can be embarrassing to young or old to get spanked by a Ford :-)

Last posters who got a 'bite' from the crank handle....2009

And this 2009, mention of another injury from crank handle:

By Erik Barrett on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 - 06:49 pm:
We met one fellow who broke his arm at the T party in Indiana on Monday, finished that day's tour and went to the doctor for a temporary cast. On Thursday, a surgeon pinned his bones back together and he was out with us on Friday.
Any hand cranked machine can hurt you even if you are only pulling up on the crank. I will rip the crank handle out of your hand and come around backwards and whack you right in the middle of the radius/ulna bones below the elbow. That's what happened to this guy.
Don't grab a T crank unless you are sure timing is correct. Any shorts to ground in the timer or harness will get you as well.
Fordially, Erik

Dan, a right handed guy who cranks with the left.

In August of 1985, I was 19 and working on our family farm. I replaced the running boards and splash aprons on my '26 in the farm shop while drinking a few barley sodas. At the end of the night, the cars battery was dead and I forgot to retard the spark . . .

well, you know the rest of the story.

I went to my uncles house to get some ice before driving myself into town and to the hospital and he said "I'll see you in the morning" I just left as my job was to load and unload square bales of hay and I didn't show up the next morning with my new cast!

On Saturday, April 28, 2007, I did it on a Model B Allis Chalmers tractor. I accomplished the feat through stupid cranking (went over the top). It hurt like hell. That's what made me such a stickler for making smart cranking a habit.

My dad did it on exactly the same model tractor in 1960, a few days before his wedding. He was in a cast up to his shoulder. All the "arm twisting" jokes directed at Mom got sorta old by the middle of the reception.

A Chauffeur's fracture definitely could make you a "Cranky" camper! :-)

Micheal, I've been thrown on the ground a couple of times! Once you do you will immediately understand and WILL use the correct procedure to start the T. Also how to set the spark control!!!!

You know when I first mentioned to my boss that I was building a Model T he told me to save my money and my sick leave as I would need both to tend to a broken arm.
I decided since I trusted him, that I would take his advice.I had about 90 sick days when I got hurt on the job.I kept as many as I could!
But I have also kept my battery charged and my starters working! Cheaper than arms broke.

I broke my wrist the same place as in the x-ray . I also dislocated it 180 degrees. It has been crooked and has hurt every day since 1982.

Apparently, the Brush Motor Car Company took notice of the fact that most folks were right-handed and preferred to crank that way. Responding to that with a mind toward safety, Brush took the elegant expedient of building their engines to spin in the opposite direction.

Just be glad all you gets is a broken wrist.

My '05 Queen has a crank that is NOT attached to the car in any way. It slips off of output shaft ever so nicely into your hand when the car starts.

If it back fires,it will get you, and get you bad, depending on when and where the output shaft ejects it. This crank nailed me years ago in the forehead. My friend Ross Harris who posts here occasionally, witnessed the event. He said after the crank walloped me, I just stood there, very still, gently orbiting in about a 6" circle,. My eyes rolled back in my head and I fell against the car with my forehead bleeding pretty nicely.

Cast iron crank weighs in at 7 pounds.

Timer/commutator for '05 Queen and spark advance linkage is now checked often and in tip top shape:-)
