Guys: Do the early Heinze coils have caps that go bad in them like the later (1913+) coils do? If so, what size is it? Thanks, Dan
Dan: Check with Randall Anderson.
I would guess that the capacitors are about the same size and voltage as later coils.
The purpose of the capacitor is spark suppression. This prevents points from getting damaged very early in their life. (slows the damage, does not stop it completely)
The Heinze coils used the same foil and paper capacitor as its contemporaries. Few if any are functional after 100+ years.
