Retired Race Car driver Dick trickle died yesterday at age 71 of a self inflicted gun shot wound. He did the deed at a Forest Lawn Cemetery after he called officials saying that they could find a dead body at the cemetery and that it would be his.

Dick never won an important race in his long racing career in many classes of racing vehicles and folks made fun of his name. Very sad day for racing yesterday.

Dick won over 1000 feature races.(one of the all time short track win leaders) And two Nascar Busch race wins. One or two of those had to be important.
Dick had around 330 starts in Nascar Cup Racing.
I don't think his death had any thing to do with his name.
Charley

Suicides and alcohol/alcoholism are closely related.

I used to work in the shop next door to Dick's garage. He would take the cars out onto the street to test run them at times.

The times I met him he was very friendly and likeable.
That would have been the early to mid 90's I talked with him.
So sorry that he felt this was his best solution to whatever problem..

Wasn't he from Wisconsin? He used to race at the Minnesota State Fair. He could come from the back of the pack and work his way to the front giving a real show.

It's said he was the only driver that had a lighter install in the car so he could have a smoke when racing.

He lived near Neenah Wisconsin. My old stomping grounds from decades ago.
My grandparents are buried in Forest Lawn also.

Brings back a few memories of days gone by.

I have to agree about the parents mentioned above. I went to school with a kid named "Richard Semon". Who does that to their kid?
