I assume the timing for a distributor is the same
#1 cyl. TDC, power stroke?

Yes. No 1 contact changes depending on what lobe you use. For regular coil, set the point just about to open. It may take a few tries to find the cam lobe and position that will give you that setting. Which ever lobe you set it to becomes No 1 then you just wire 243 from there. If I recall, the gap should be about .015 for the points and .025 to maybe .030 for the plugs.
