Old high school buddy in late 60's, just ran a 4.04 ET at 317 mph in Topeka, KS, he runs a fuel funny car in NHRA. we pulled parts at a wrecking yard after school wow he is doin great, go Johnny go!
When I was in high school in the late '50's we used to go to Lion's drag strip and look in awe at the guys wearing the red jackets that had "under 10 seconds, over 150 mph" on the back. Times have changed....
My HS buddies and I used to go to the drag strip on open nights. They were my pit crew and I ran my 64 Corvair. I was smoking everyone until I went head to head with another Corvair. I was pretty good on the lights. I had him through third gear but as soon as I hit forth, he blew past me like I hit the brakes. We had a blast though. A couple of months later, I blew the transmission and my race days were over.
We are going to the NHRA event in Las Vegas in October.
Johnny who??
Living "and sitting 20 feet away right now" from one of the most driven by traffic lights in Topeka, you can tell the drags are in town with every red light.... Ho hum....
It's all good because I almost always sell or trade a few antique gas pumps on these weekends!
