Interesting old picture from 1908 on Shorpy. Notice the Automobile Gasolene shingle hanging out.

Rob Heyen I guess this is where your K would have stopped to get fuel.

Looks like a couple of local thugs looking for one of those "Smokin, choken" automobiles!

Before automotive engines, gasolene was largely a waste product of refining crude to get kerosene for lighting and heating. It was sold in drug stores to kill head lice.

Are those two guys at the right of the picture carrying baseball bats or head knocking clubs?

Google Street View is annoying on this one. The same perspective shot is staring right into the morning sun and you can't see anything. Looks like the background building with the turrent, the church and a couple of the other buildings are still there. The gasoline selling store is sadly gone, though.

The guys with the bats probably are coming home from playing baseball. Our concepts of what people should wear and what they do has little relation to the reality of 105 years ago.

I say the two guys are either coming or going to take care of some "business". No gloves just bats.

The guy in the middle left of the photo also has something in his hand that looks like a bat or similar. While the guys in the left of the photo standing in the store front are staring in the general direction of those two guys.

Any guesses on what is going on?

Someone brought up politics and these two guys are the "moderators" of their time.

An incredibly sharp pic for the time. Nice.

Could be the Dodge Brothers looking to chat with Henry Ford regarding share dividends.

One thing this picture demonstrates is the radical changes in women's fashions (compare 1908 dresses to 1928), and the relatively slower and less radical changes in men's dress.

Thanks for sharing Vince, Great photo! We have family who live in the Littleton area and have been there many times. The Main Street is still much the same as in the photo. Great place to visit and be sure you stop in the Littleton Diner for some great food.

Happy motoring, Warren

PS: don't see any cars
