just pulled head for a valve job found this white powder around the exaust valves, what is it and what does it mean?? taking my time doing this cause would like to drive 2-3 months without tearing it down again,,have already had head surfaced also.
I would guess a water leak, the water we get here in Southern Cal will leave a white residue if allowed to dry. Just a guess.
Clean that head up with a wire brush on a drill motor---do your valve job and put on a good copper head gasket coated on both sides with copper spray. Then flush/boil out that cooling system and add 50/50 water AF mix. That should keep you going good luck, Paul

Or if you've had a radiator leak and used BarsLeak or something similar, that could've produced the residue
