MTFCI will have a new forum starting 31 May 2013.
http://www.modelt.org/vbulletin/
Yep, several of us have been test driving it recently. It should be OK once Mark gets all the bugs worked out of it. It's not just the users who have to learn the new system. So does the webmaster.
Me too. It works from my iPhone!
Just tried it and got the 404 error message again.
Peter
I just tried the link again. Still works for me.
I signed up and put a wrong year of birth and it won't let me change it, i tried using a different name and it still won't let me change it so it must be looking at the IP address, it says i am too young to be viewing the content? I am 73 so you guys must be really old!!Ha
Rick
I seem to be able to log in and get into the forum, look at a dozen of so threads (topics?), but don't know how to
1. respond to an existing threads
2. start a new thread
3. post a picture
I've looked at the help, but many times it just goes to some other page of the website. Where is the best place to find out how to use this thing? I like to be able to read something to find out it works. Also what browser or computer type do you need to make this work, seems that my 98SE not good enough.
Mike
Just sent a test hope it worked.
Bob
Hey Mike,
You have to register, and then you will get an e-mail to start your account, the new forum will be much better as soon as everyone gets it figured out
Mike, I was just over there and it's working. You may have lots of compatibility issues if you are still running 98SE.
I have registered and done the e-mail thing. Just looking for some text on how to use this website. Still having trouble.
Mike
I don't know what 98SE is, but I just tried the site on Firefox, Netscape, Safari, and IE. For viewing, it seems to work the same on all those browsers. I didn't try all of them for posting pictures.
Steve what kind of Firefox or IE are you using? The version number?
Mike
Firefox 21.0, IE 5.2 for Mac.
I have Foxfire 2 and IE6. I mostly use the foxfire rather than the IE. I'll try IE next time maybe that will work better. Thanks
I try to register,But it don't work.I am not a member of a chapter here in Holland. Help.
Toon
for members only?
I just entered "None" for the chapter question and it accepted it.
Be sure to check for the eMail confirmation and respond to it before trying to use the forum.
If I can figure it out and post on it (almost) anybody else can.
I can't get the drop down to stay on so I can click on it. As soon as I put the cursor on it, it disappears. Anyone else have that problem? Everything else on that drop down works fine. Dave
No, you don't have to be a member to register. As Art says, just enter "None" for chapter. Actually, I expect it would accept Cheezits, Banana Slug, or Whig Party, as long as you enter something.
I'm getting more than a little frustrated with the new format. Nothing is working for me and I can't get registered. I've been a paying member of the MTFCI for years, now and as I'm on their rolls, I should already be registered for forum use.
The other thing is I don't think it's at all proper to ask me about my date of birth. That kind of personal data is strictly none of their business. Yeah, I could lie, but that's not the point. They have no business even asking.
Just tried it and can now access it.
Peter
Bob Coiro,
I agree completely with you. I tried to contribute to the other forum but won't bother with the mess of the new format. Hope this one doesn't go that way too or it's goodbye. Great group of people here on the MTFCA forum.
Registering to use the website has nothing to do with your membership and being a paying member is not a requirement to sign up to use the Forums on either club website (in case anybody was under the assumption that you had to). Most people just don't like change and would rather fuss and sputter about it than embrace it ... now what was that saying from Hugo Gernsback??

Science Fiction??? Nah... its pre-columbian here! ws
I posted but I don' know how I did it or how I got there, To old to like changes I guess. May
master it by next year maybe.
Bob
I am with you Dennis, looks alot like the Smokstak forum.Slow to load, and complicated. But I do like the seperate catagorys for stuff.
I like this forum.Cant get any better. Quick to load on my 28.8 k Dial up and works.Something happened to my phone line and it has noise.Slowed me down from 50.1 k to 28.8 k
Good people here good info.
I got registered, but I cannot seem to find the 'Reply' or 'Quote' buttons that are referred to in the 'Help' section. Nor can I see how to post a new thread. I assume there is supposed to be a 'Post new thread' button somewhere, but don't see it. Thought it might be under the 'Subscribe' button, but it says I don't have access to that page, so I backed out with my tail between my legs. I assume I am signed in as my name appears at the top of the page with the option to sign OUT below it. Oh well.....never went there often anyway. Maybe I'll try back when they've had time to work out the bugs?????.......
Hey Hal,
After you register, you will receive an e-mail, you need to follow the link in the e-mail to be confirmed, then you must log in.
Best
Gus
I got in,just followed the directions. You aren't in until you respond to the email. I like the speedster section I hope it gets a lot of use.
Andy
I tried and did get logged in. However, none of the screens I see have the boxes they talk about to view or post. It is going to have to improve a lot more or it is a write-off.
Are they going to have more sections?
The Idea sounds fine, but this you will mean you will need find what section someone also used to ask a question, newbies might have problems with this, and we need to help them the most. Just my 2 cents. My first post came up in the speedster section, but at least it worked, mite master it in a year or so.

I just sign up and was having the same problems as every one else. But !!! I got an Email and clicked on it and now all the missing box's are now working after going back to the site and logging in. I'm now going back and try to post some photos on the TT area.

I too was lost after signing in until I found the email mentioned above. It was in my junk mail folder, not my inbox. After finding that and clicking on the link in it, I went back to the forum and the "post reply" and "start new thread" boxes were there.
It'll take some getting used to, of course. But then we all had to learn to use this one as well.
Thanks guys. I'm in now. I will admit I didn't read the whole shebang before starting the process. It may have been spelled out in there if I had, but you'd think it would have given you some instructions on what to do next after creating your username and password. That may help others get in that don't know about this forum.
I finally signed up, but not happy with it. Everytime I leave a posting it takes me back to the very first post. I guess you are not allowed to use your back arrow, but i don't see any other way to go back. It works fine on this forum.
I can see where it could be a better forum, but not until they take a bunch of kinks out of it.
I can see where Bob above will use different sections. I will post everything under General Discussion. Then watch to see who rants at me first. Wait til Rob posts about his Model K.
I do like this format better! However, the handwriting is on the wall. We must adapt, or die. And I am too stubborn to die.
I tried the FAQs a few times before trying to sign up, but they never worked. I had no trouble signing myself up, even used my real birth-date. Someone wants to steal my identity can have it. But I am keeping the tools and the old car stuff.
I even got my cars' picture put in for my ?Avitar? or whatever that thing is.
However I cannot seem to post pictures. I like pictures. One I tried several times did seem to work once, but then it went away again. And most of the photos that others have posted (successfully?), all I get is a torn photo icon. I like to see pictures.
I do not like "glitz" surrounding tidbits of information, especially when it starts taking up too much space.
Some of these things will be corrected eventually. The webmasters and others need to be given some time to work out the bugs. We need to give ourselves time also, to get used to a new format.
I really like this site. Lots of great information, simply displayed how I can read lots of it easily. Threads get interrupted by photographs, But I LIKE PHOTOGRAPHS! I scan up, I scan down, I stop to look at pictures, I read what I want, which is most of it.
I suspect the time is growing short till we here will have to face this new monster.
I just hope it won't have much glitz. I hate glitz getting in the way of information.
Thank you Chris Brancaccio for all you do!
Drive carefully, and enjoy, W2
Webmasters will do what they feel they need to do to get the job done and I respect that. But don't assume that all change is good just because it's "change" and that all people who don't like the changes must be old farts stuck in their ways. Sometimes the reality is that the change isn't necessarily for the better.
I can't for the life of me, understand how paring the conversation into multiple subcategories (ie several different forums) will encourage vigorous round-table conversation.
But I guess that's just me.
I won't be joining the new site and likely will visit this one much less often if it changes to that kind of format.
Yea,change is not allways better. We got it going on here for sure.the harder a forum is to use,the less it will be used.
The only reason I kinda like the seperate catogorys is the fact it will help with ranting from folks who cant weed out the post they are not interested in.Sometimes that takes the shine off the thing for me.
When and if they ever get it working correctly, please let us know on this site. I think I am done playing with it. Not worth the trouble.
I know Mark is doing a lot to get it running and I wish him the best and applaud him for his efforts.
Well,I have allways heard change is non avoidable which I think is bull-----. It seems like change allways brings more difficulty and more material to download and so on.
Change should bring simplicity, less data to download to use the site and less trouble to use..
I sure hope this site dont go down the path of mtfci.
Anyone besides me able to create an account on the new board and be unable to post pictures yet still able to post here?
Getting logged in was the big problem for me. I had a number of E-mail too and from the Webmaster before the log in happened.
Once logged in, the rest fell into place including posting pictures.
I have used Ford Barn forum before and this is similar.
Works fine for me except the hosted pictures.
I went through the sign up,and now it doesn't remember me nor will it let me sign up again. I have never seen any of the screens they talk about. It isn't progress to screw something up as bad as they have this. Totally useless.
Jack....when you log in is the litlle "remember me" box checked?
I practically live on a vBulletin forum so I'm totally familiar with it and love it.
Photos up to and over 2 megs are automatically resized, links are automatically parsed (made clickable) and a host of other things.
I can't wait till this forum changes to something else.......hopefully vBulletin.
I have tried that, doesn't help. I find it strange, that some folks can get on and others can't.
Do you happen to clear browser history and everything when you log off?
I wipe everything possible as a matter of practice so I have to log in everywhere every time......and it's worth it having clean browsers.
G'day,
Just tried the MTFCI site and have now been relegated to 403 failure status. Have had the 404 in the past. I have for a short time been able to access the site and have registered, now back to being denied access. Please don't stuff this site up and follow suit and change to the format of the MTFCI forum.
Peter
The most disturbing thing about this is that no one from The MTFCI has given an explanation, nor an update about it. They don't even give it enough importance to put it in the old forum slot on their web site.
It's a mess, but Mark's trying to fix it. I wouldn't want his job.
http://www.modelt.org/vbulletin/forum/main-category/main-forum/842-posting-pictu res
Just checked the MTFCI site, I was remembered and didn't have to sign in. That was encouraging.
Unfortunately, the test photos I posted yesterday are gone from my view (no big loss I guess, since Mark Gregush and probably everyone else weren't able to see them anyway).
