I have been gathering the parts needed to rebuild a 26/27 differential. The ball of the drive shaft housing has some wear in it but I don't know how much wear is too much. Is there a rule of thumb for these? Thanks in advance. Randy

Depending on you choose to deal with what you have shims are made for that purpose........and they work great....... :-)

Thanks Craig. Do these always wear in the same places or is their any uncommon wear that the shim's wont help with?

Consider turning the torque tube 180 degrees. The only difference is that the grease cups would be on the bottom. I did this on mine for convenient access to the zerk fittings I I replaced the grease cups with.

On the other hand, I think I would just file the ridge smooth and use it as is.

If you turn it over the grease cups will be easier to access BUT the larger one may not line up with the hole in the ball due to opposite mounting angle. That ball grease hole will also be in a position to allow more leakage.
