Model T Ford Forum: Forum 2013: 15 T assembly order

All my body parts are finished and I am about to put my 15 runabout together. I have already had to remove my radiator to install the front fender braces and do not want to go through that again.

What I am looking for are things like --Do I put the splash shields and running boards on before or after I put the body on?

My old buddy Ralph Hartman passed away and I have no one near that has gone through this. Opinions are over the place, and I don't want to make any more mistakes.---thank you

First install the runabout body with 6 body mounting bolts through the holes in the body brackets and corresponding hole in the frame mounting bracket. Then lift it up on one side at a time to install the splash aprons insuring the 2 mounting holes get the forward 2 mounting bolts. Loosely install washers and nuts there. Then install running boards and similarly install the 8 brace mounting bolts. Next is the fenders. I install the fronts first. Loosely install the 4 carriage bolts (5/16") Are you detecting an installation theme yet? When you finally get all the sheet metal looking like you want it; go ahead and tighten all those "looselies". . .

Leonard,
I see where you're a New Poster. We receive answers to our questions on the Forum where they're asked. However, some people do send PM's to the requesters in answer to their query. . . . I do hope you're all right and still above the green grass as opposed to the alternative . .

George==I am really sorry I didn't get back to thank you for you'r answer. This was exactly what I was looking for. I was making the body mounting bolts and decided to start the engine, and there was no way I could put a body on over the leaky muffler. Finally, today I have that problem fixed, and can round up my lifters. What is a PM?
I've bin working on this car off and on for the past 15 years and hope to take it to Hershey in October.

A "PM" is a "personal message" or "private message" sent through the forum. Click on a responder's name, that should take you to their profile. Below the information (which follows the photo if there is one), should be a partially hi-lighted "click here to send a private message to xxx".

It would be great to see some photos of your '15 runabout. I, too, have a '15 runabout. Well, most of one. It is next in line for restoration in my T pile.

Drive carefully, and enjoy, W2

I will soon start putting my '15 Runabout body parts on and since I've never done this before this was a great post for me!

I have in fact "book-marked" several posts from the FORUM so I have a quick and ready reference on a number of topics as the FORUM is nearly a limitless source of technical advice.
