Jay,
A little thread drift - but related to the picture and title...
I don't know exactly where you are in Northern California, but if it's in the central Sierra foothills you are probably familiar with Calaveras High School in San Andreas.
I worked at Calaveras Unified School District from 1992 until 2000. At that time Calaveras High teams (and since it's beginning I believe) were known as the "Redskins". Every once in a while there would be a big politically correct effort to change it, but it always went down in defeat and the name remained in place. I haven't kept up with developments for several years. In looking at the CHS website today I see that they are now the "Mighty Reds", so apparently such an effort did succeeded sometime in more recent years.
IMHO - I don't see what's wrong with "Redskins" or "Chiefs" or whatever. It is not derogatory, in fact it honors the namesake. In the case of CHS I'm not so sure "Mighty Reds" is an improvement. In fact, to guys my age it could easily be misinterpreted.
Oh well, I guess we gotta be correct, whatever that is.
Jay, Looks good to me, what's wrong with Big Chief Root Beer? The women looks Indian to me. Bet it was great tasting Root Beer. I remember when my Dad would make Root Beer. My job was to cap the bottles. It can in handy because, when I grew-up I got a job capping people. lol
Happy motoring, Warren
Pearson field is still there.
Sadly, Big Chief Root Beer is not.
Oh, how I miss those sterlized glasses.
: ^ )
Keith
Does "Every Glass Sterlized" mean it's sterlized after each use or just once when new? Also, is "Sterlized" anything like sterilized?
Jay, great photo. That must be ca. 1917-1920. The aircraft may be Curtis JN4D's. Could someone who knows aircraft chime in here with an ID and a date?
TH
That Big Chief would make one cool BBQ'er and bar, for the backyard.
Then old Scott(my neighbor) who is always bragging about his mexican style patio would know he has been out done. The guy has six different scents of smoke coming from his propane BBQ'er and all kinds of lights that change colors.
I know his wife tells my wife!

I've taken a couple Stearman rides out of Pearson Field - nice area to fly around with the Columbia River & surrounding Portland, OR area !
Sad to hear 'Big Chief' went to the happy hunting grounds.
The car in front of the hanger, and the one just visible behind the "stand" look like early '30s--maybe very late 20s (27 up).
I still have a couple of Big Chief bottles tucked away out in the shop somewhere.
Great pic! Here's another one with a car.
Great photo!
Hey, looks to me like they made that stand out of an old water tower! What a great idea if that was the case.
Happy motoring, Warren
The white hangar in the background is still there on the field, currently home of the air museum
Henry Petrino,
The Redskins are still alive and well.....
Sigh...Another thing I will never get to do in my lifetime, getting a root beer served to me in a sterilized mug from a giant indian's mouth
Chuck Hoffman,
Thanks for your post! I looked the CHS website over pretty well and couldn't find any reference to the Redskins, just the Mighty Reds. Good to know that the tradition isn't dead.
What is politically incorrect? It just looks like a typical '30s root beer stand. Those kind of places were very common during that era.
90% of history is politically incorrect by today's standards.
Politically correct today will be politically incorrect tomorrow. I remember when PC only meant printed circuit. To me, it still does.
