Has anyone thought about adding in the blue square box a way to search for local T owners in our areas? Maybe just a icon that allows you to type in your area code ?
I know we have the availability to meet and our local chapters however just was wondering like this past week while in Luton in would have been neat to be able to type in the zip or area code I was in to see if there were any events or local chapter meetings going on.
Just was wondering if this was ever suggested??
My opinion:
It's a good question and it would be great if it worked as you suggest. However, years ago when another T site had access to more directory information, I remember several of us received the same generic note regardless of the car we owned. It was supposedly from a lady who wanted to see my car because it was just like the truck she inherited from her father. Something about the note bothered me and I didn't follow up.
I do think that posting our location does help get us to know each other and our locations. I've been contacted through personal messages by people wanting to stop by and in those cases, I knew they were legitimate. I've also seen notes on this forum from time to time where people say "I'll be visiting Springfield next week, anything T related to see?" and members will contact that person off line.

I agree strongly that a rough location in the name field is a good way to get to know others in your area and for the other reasons you mentioned.
I wish more of us did it.
Like you guys, I just put my city and state and my name as my "By" name.
I have no problem with putting it in my profile, or even having someone post,"I will be in the area Dates" and ask for anyone to contact them. We had a very good visit with Ockert van der Berg last weekend. He asked and we contacted him and invited him. But to put a box to find names of people in the area would invite advertisements and junk phone calls and junk mail. I don't think it would be a good idea.

I can understand why some folks don't want to list their location, but like to see the city and state next to their name so I can help if they need it.
The site has helped me meet some very nice local folks with T's or have an interest in T's that were not directly connected with a local club.
Jamie,
I looked at your profile, your last name is Savannah and you live in Savannah?
