What was the new diameter of the ball on the wishbone ?

Here's a 2009 thread where Richard Gould tells about a NOS wishbone he measured to 1.245": http://www.mtfca.com/discus/messages/80257/100082.html?1249002615

I measured my best ball to 1.23" - good enough, I reckon :-)

I understood it to be 1.25" diameter. Perhaps that is a nominal figure.

In case this is relevant, here are before and after photos of my '26 Touring wishbone ball repair. I bored a 1-1/4" hole in a scrap of thin wood as a gauge, then MIG-welded the ball to oversize and carefully ground and filed to size. The thin wood gauge was very handy to use at various angles to ensure overall roundness.

Nice repair work! I usually braze them up, then file to fit.

I bought some 1-1/4" stainless steel balls on ebay and took one of those and a worn wishbone to a "real" welder. He fixed it right up. (I can weld, but when suspension, steering, or brakes are involved, I take the parts to a pro.)

Anyway, the s.s. balls cost just a few bucks for five, and this seems like a lot less trouble than all that welding/brazing and grinding, and trying to get it round again.
