Papa does the work while the family eats! I wonder if they saved any for him?

The worse set of flats I ever has was out in Big Bend National Park in the Chihuahuan Desert on a 118F day. Pulled over with my 160A to get a picture of the landscape and ended up with cactus thorns in 2 tires with only I spare! Luckily I had a patch repair kit on board and it took nearly 4 hours to get back on the road. I've never seen thorns so tough that they went all the way through good tires and into the tubes. That whole time not one vehicle came down the road and there were times I thought I would not make it through the heat. At least in a more modern vehicle you can occassionally turn the engine on and run the AC for a while. In a Model A not so. :-)

The car looks a lot like a 1915 or later Maxwell to me. That would be a Perlman rim on a Stanweld wheel if it's like mine.

Great photo. Great poses and expressions. I don't know how you keep finding these.

Looks like the son is doing the work. Dad is taking the picture. (And probably eating.) :-)

Looks to me like Sister is the only one working... and she is eating whilst patching the tube!

Another great photo Jay, Thanks,

I don't think she is eating, I think she is sniffing the glue!

Jay, were you there when the photo was taken? Why are they playing with the tire and tube when they have a spare on the rear of the car?

A friend of mine related to me a story of how he ran out of gas on the way to a tour. He walked a few miles to a service station and lugged a tin of fuel back. He said that only when he got back did he realize that he could have off loaded his model T and driven it to the station. I asked him why he didn't just open the fuel drain on the T and take out a gallon to put into his tow vehicle and then be on his way.

Sometimes we don't think a thing through while under pressure. Maybe it was just a nice day with nothing more interesting to do than have a picnic and play with tubes!

Just saying.... TH

I think maybe the spare was flat too.

LOL Terry. That's the kind of story you don't tell any one after you realise what you've done!
