I know this has been discussed before, but I'm not a good enough searcher to find it. Square-bottom slots (A), or round (B)?

FWIW, I spent considerable time at the Archives with Larry Smith and Mike Walker last summer. This is one of the things I researched. I was quite surprised to learn that Ford documented NO square slot castle nuts, not even in early '09. ALL drawings, early and late, were of round slotted nuts, and the releases contained nothing on any changes from square to round slots, or vice versa. There may have been one or two that I missed, but I was pretty thorough, and nut after nut all showed round slots right from the beginning on up into the 20's.
I'm not saying they weren't used, it's just that according to surviving Ford records, they weren't. No doubt many nuts were replaced after vibrating loose, and these were probably more likely to have come from the local hardware for a penny, rather than the Ford dealer for three cents.
OK, round it will be. Thanx.
HOWEVER,it is well documented the brass T's have square bottom castle nuts. Both styles are still available today.
I know it is not a Model T but our '13 Buick has the square bottom castle nuts. I'm kinda thinking the square bottoms were earlier.
I think large round bottoms are most prevalent today.
Good one Ted!!!!

Larry, you're right---we just couldn't find any of them documented by Ford.
