OT: oops! I sand/glass mixture blasted my brass side lamp... It is now a dull gold. Did I blast off some metal coating? The same happened to the 1912 carburetor. Both are original I think. Can they be polished out? Not funny, but I laughed anyway! Bob
well, if you abraded the brass, then you have some work to do. Folks who know more about the lamps will chime in shortly, but here is my take.
If you did in fact hit the brass then you roughed it up pretty bad. I'd start with green scotchbrite, then white, then a buffing wheel. It will take a while by hand. You could also just use the wheel and different grade polishes. No real harm done, you just took off a half mill or less of material.
Chris pretty much covered it. (buffing wheel and various grades of polish is easiest). Better call the suppliers and order a 5 gal pail of "elbow grease". Or, you could paint the middle part and bottom of the fount black; send to me to use on my '14. :-) Good luck--sorry for your mishap. Hope the lettering on the top comes out OK.
