Anyone tried or heard of mounting a side draft carb on a vaporizer intake manifold? PNNR (Purists need not respond).

I don't understand how it is possible. The intake manifold is built in to the vaporizer. You would need a different intake manifold from an earlier T. I use either NH or L4 on all my 26-27 models. Just change the manifold and punch through a hole between the cylinders 2&3.

I take it back. The vaporizer is mounted on the exhaust manifold. I have never tried to mount a different carburetor on a vaporizer intake manifold.

I do not have a picture on my computer but my first engine in high school I used a NH on a vaporizer intake, mounted by re-drilling the mounting holes for the NH pattern.

My vaporizer intake was altered to accommodate a downdraft. I'm sure you could work something to accommodate a sidedraft.

Gary, see pictures on how it can be done in this thread: http://www.mtfca.com/discus/messages/331880/361238.html?1368442977

Mike,

Yours looks like a Model A Ford intake manifold. Your exhaust manifold appears to be a modified vaporizer unit.

I have a NH mounted on a vaporizer manifold, I had to build an adaptor to level the carb and adapt the bolt holes. This picture is when I was going to run a modern carb (I couldn't get it to flow gas well enough without a pump)It runs good with the NH

Has anyone ever tried to use one of the little vacuum pulse pumps like those used on small engines? KB

I made an adaptor to mount an NH on a vaporiozor manifold, it ran OK, but it sure frosted up the adaptor and manifold.
Adaptor

Then I made another adaptor to position the NH in the same spot it would be in if on a regular intake manifold.
Haven't tried this one out yet.

I made a 90 deg. adapter for the vaporizer manifold and mounted a Vw bug Solex on it.
I did it 10 years ago as an experiment and it's still on my car.
Runs good and gets about 25% better mileage, too.

if you make your adaptor pipe 3 or 4 inches long it will work better. More room for carburated gasses to collect before having to decide what side to take. Obviously this principal can be taken to far. Im thinking of doing the same thing on my speedster so let me know how it works. Here is a thread i posted a few months back.
