I think you're right, Richard. I looked at it wrong thinking there was a piece of it cut away. Further examination shows it to be what looks like a piece of wood added, presumably as a stop to hold something on the running board.

The ol' eyes aren't what they used to be... :-)

I think your right, it's something that was made to put on a touring or roadster to look like a C cab top.

I believe it's a slip-on accessory delivery body that slips over the top and rear of a factory roadster body with the factory trunk removed.

There have been period photos of that type accessory body posted on the forum in the past. If I can find one of the photos, I'll post it.
