This only works if you have a vehicle w/an alarm system.

Put your car keys beside your bed at night. If you hear a suspicious noise at night, outside or someone trying to break into your house, just press the panic button for your car. The alarm will go off and continue to sound until you either turn it off or the battery goes dead.
Think about this: It’s a security alarm system that you may already have and it’s already installed and workable. Test it, it should work from anywhere in your home, whether your car is outside or in the garage.
If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into your house they’re not likely to hang around. It probably won’t take long before your neighbours are looking out to see what’s going on.
This system could also be useful if’n you live alone and have an emergency, such as a heart attack or fall and can’t get up.

YMMV.

The sound of a 12 gauge shot gun going off in their face tends to stop home intruders too.

From personal experience, absolutely NO one is going to care about a car alarm going off. They were so faulty for so long and it was such a normal thing to hear in a neighborhood, grocery store parking lot, etc, that it'd have to be going off for quite a while before anyone was annoyed enough to come investigate.

Good locks, an alert dog who doesn't just bark all night, and your weapon of choice readily available beside where you sleep is your best option.

I have a buddy who has a nice master switch right beside his bed and shotgun that activates all of his lights on the outside of his house, and a bunch of key ones inside the house. He can be awake, armed, and able to see in seconds, which is way more important than trying to "get the drop" on somebody. Especially in the middle of the night when your brain is a little fuzzy and you're not sure whatever it was is worth getting up for anyway. If I purchase a house instead of renting I will have a similar system worked out.

A can of wasp and hornet spray is better than pepper spray and has a longer range, Also does not require the accuracy of a gun when half asleep. KB

Guess bug spray is OK. Carb cleaner with a nozzle on it is Very Excellent too. Mucho distance.

Bug spray, pepper spray, etc... may be OK on an unarmed intruder. But fact is, if he knows you're home and comes in anyway, he is prepared. I prefer 230gr. of heavy metal traveling at 850 fps.

A 12 gauge shotgun does not require the accuracy of a gun when half asleep but clean up can get messy!

Ditto. Security by FMJ works better than any spray can. There was a news item tonight about how modern auto thieves are using some type of electronic device that disables car alarms and unlocks car doors. Imagine your surprise when you press the panic button on your fob for a home intruder and nothing happens. On top of that, your car is gone.

The catlike young woman that replaces everything while the crooks are still in the house sends the wrong message! The message should be silent alarm, noisy alarm, shots fired, pictures, and survivors will be prosecuted and forced to make restution! After taking 30 days to 5'th wheel around lake Superior we found we had been broken into and robed. After going to all the trials and sententing i ask the proscuter about shearching phone records, computer search, propety search to no avail!! George was going up to bed when his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the shed, which she could see from the bedroom window, where he kept his Model T and tools. He opened the back door to go and turn off the light but saw that there were people in the shed stealing things. He phoned the police, who asked 'Is someone in your house?' and he said 'no'. Then they said that all patrol cars were busy and that he should simply lock his door and an officer would be along when available, probably an hour or two. George said, 'Okay,' hung up, counted to 30, and phoned the police again. 'Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people stealing things from my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now because I've just shot them.' Then he hung up. Within two minutes three police cars, the Armed Offenders Squad and an ambulance showed up at the Phillips' house. The burglars were caught red-handed. One of the policemen said to George: 'I thought you said that you'd shot them!' George said, 'I thought you said you had nobody available!'

Had a guy about ten miles from here come home in the middle of the afternoon to find a strange car in his driveway. Went in the house, shot and killed the intruder, sheriff said, "That's the law in Montana." That's about all there was to it. Should be like that everywhere. This is a pretty safe place. Probably half the cars in the neighborhood are unlocked and the keys in them most of the time. On the other hand, it is less and less like that as we get more people going through and drifting in and out of the bum camps and "shelters" who figure it is easier to steal than work.

Here in Canada, the problem is that we're not allowed to arm ourselves, if we do, then we become the bad guys. Firearms at home have to be locked up and ammo stored in a seperate location.

Hey Ken,
They are trying to pull the same thing here, but will not succeed with out a civil war. It is getting to be an ugly battle with the liberal press engaging mentally ill people to go out and kill a lot of people, even children so they have more support for their cause.

Ken, Sounds like Canada is a great place for crooks and low life's to work their trade. Maybe your tourist board could advertise that to entice scum here to visit Canada the land of easy pickings. Just think of the boom in tourism it would bring!

Gustaf, you hit the head right on the nail!
That's it.
Libs just love it when some drug user goes out and shoots up a bunch of people. They love it!
Every school shooter upper in the past 30 years was on a riddling type drug. The one that shot the congress woman in Oklahoma too. The press will never mention that though.

Hey Aaron,
The press did make sure that every one knew how to correctly pronounce the Arizona shooter's name though. They had a 5 minute tutorial on the news to make sure that any one with a difficult name would be sure that their fame would be assured.

I beg your pardon, I doubt that, lib or otherwise.
I would appreciate some citation that supports this very serious and disturbing allegation.
I look forward to an interesting read.
Thanks.
