I called L.D Becker Electric this afternoon an was informed Mr. Becker passed away this morning. I have purchased several alternators form him, he was a fine person to do business with.
I enjoyed chatting with him at Hershey and Dunkirk Flea Market.
I believe his son is working in the business.

My condolences to the family.

When I ordered my 6 volt alternator 5 years ago, Mr. Becker's son said he would send the alternator with an invoice, and payment would be accepted after I was happy with the alternator.

Trusting. Not widely found in business.

Bob J.

My condolences to the Becker family. We visited with him at the Model A national meeting in Dallas. He did good work and stood behind it.

I bought one of his Model T - GM starters based on his lifetime warranty sales pitch at a swap meet. At the time, I also got a review of his recent colonoscopy as well as a chance to meet Mrs. Becker.

Later, I had a minor problem with the knurl on the shaft where the armature was pressed on. He took my word on the problem and sent out a replacement armature the next day. This was after I assured him that I could do the swap myself. LD instructed me to toss the old armature but I kept it and stopped in his shop while visiting Tim Morsher in Ohio. LD was surprised to see me and he gave me a tour of his shop after looking over the part I brought back. He took the time to explain how he changed the design and was every bit the gentleman. The hobby has lost another first class guy and one heck of a machinist.

He had told me that the 6v alternator had a life-time warranty: HIS! He explained that back when he was 50, it sounded cool, but when he he hit 75 it didn't sound like a good idea....

My condolences to the Becker family. We were able to meet Mr and Mrs Becker at the BBQ restaurant in Chickasha last March. He introduced himself and we had a great time listening to his storys ....we stayed long after our plates were clean. I'm glad I had a chance to meet him.

This is truly a very sad day. I always looked forward to chatting with Mr Becker at Hershey. I always made it a point that he was my first stop on the first day. The swapmeet wont be the same without him. Hopefully his son will keep up the tradition.

I should add that I think Mr Becker might have been the only seller at the Hershey swap meet that would be completely sold out before the meet would officially open for business!

My condolences to the Becker family also. Funny what a small world it is, I live only 25 minutes north of them, yet haven't seen any of them for years. Used to when I did business with them thru my job as facilities director at the school system in which they resided. Nice folks, for sure. All the good one's are going!

I met LD Becker a few years ago. I bought several alternators and a few starters from LD and his wife during those years for my model Ts but it wasn't until this past year that i found out that he and my father had worked together in the mid 60's at the SAC base in Nebraska. Dad flew B52's and LD worked on them I believe. We spent an hour or more talking about the base in Lincoln, it brought back a lot of memories. LD had great stories and a knack for details. I will miss him and the stories. I hope his wife will continue coming to Chickasha, she is a great lady and really very funny. I'll be sure to ask for the Bonnie discount and about her blue eyed pink pig the next time I see her..

Thank you all so very much for the kind words concerning my father, I am his son Daryl, I have attended, since I was Born, many of the shows and Hershey was our only family (vacation) if you will. WE (brother Larry Jr. and I) will continue the family business and even attempt to make many improvements, I plan on attending HERSHEY and Hopefully Chickasha and Iola, at the least, I plan on adding many other shows in the future, My mother at first, did not want to go to any shows again(without)DAD, But I have and will continue to do all I can do to bring her to the shows, so far I believe Hershey at least is a definite for her. we truly hope to see everyone at a show or feel free to call the shop anytime, obviously for any Model T electrical parts, But also, just a Hello is more than welcome, I want to also add that all of you were so very important to him and that your friendships and time spent listening to his stories meant the world to him , He would want to go to the shows just to enjoy the conversations, regardless of making a profit, AGAIN THANK YOU ALL

I am hoping to get there, Hershey right now is the plan and then Chickasha will definitely be considered, as I have heard great things about that show ,especially for the older cars, as it seems so many are getting toward the newer stuff, thank you for the nice comments

For what it is worth I bought a starter from him about 3 years ago at Chickasha. For some reason I had already spent all of the money that I had brought with me and had to write him a check. He did not know me at all but did not bat an eye or even look at my check. He did not ask to see any ID. The next year I bought 2 more starters from him with cash. I enjoyed talking to, and will miss talking to L.D.

Daryl:

If someone would call the old business number, not knowing the change, would it be answered at the new location ??

yes, the same number works for the shop and units are being made there, for many different applications ,the new number 419 577 2341 is specifically for model T units. thank you Bob for asking, I should have mentioned that :-)
