I have had a mini-storage for five or more years. A couple of days ago, yet another rent bill arrived. I got to thinking about it and couldn't even remember what's in the darn storage and decided whatever it is, I could have bought it all again brand new with the saved rent money and had a load of cash left over if I'd just chucked it all in the first place.
So, this morning I cranked up the ol' TT and headed out. First load was an old box spring and mattress set, a bunch of chairs, a bunch of boxes and a lot of other assorted junk. The truck looked like it just time-warped from The Grapes of Wrath, only worse. The second load was equally picturesque.
Lots of honks, thumbs up and smiles from other drivers. I'm sure I was quite a sight, got a lot done and had a blast doing it!
Whatever you own; also owns you. This stuff made you pay to store it.
I'm trying to get rid of stuff, too.
George Carlin talked about how your house is just a cover for your stuff. When you get too much stuff you have to get a bigger cover for it.
I've found that buying at auctions gets you good stuff cheap, but you wind up with all the extra junk that comes with the thing you bought. I plan to gather up all that extra junk and have one of the auctioneers peddle it.
