What product would you use to seal an exhaust whistle thread to the pipe fitting? I assume teflon tape would burn. Is there a product made that can withstand the heat of the exhaust?
I wouldn't. Those things are a source of aggravation for me.
PS, My brother lives in Thiensville, Wi
Probably Permatex muffler and tailpipe sealer or Permatex Ultra Copper gasket maker.
However, I don't know if either acts like pipe dope and makes future disassembly easier.
See what teflon tape will do when you heat it on your wife's cooking range. I don't think it'll take that much heat though??
I'm still not too crazy about those whistles.
Hal,
You don't like steam sounding whistles? Good thing you're not living in Sacramento in the 1940s!
Rector Seal #2 should work.
Unless you are worried about it falling off, really shouldn't need any thing.
If installed correctly using the right fittings, they work great. However, most people do not have the correct size for the weak T exhaust back pressure and they do not sound as loud as they should. Smaller is better in this case.
Ed,
That is so true! I put one on Number 23--the T railcar at Portola, but it's way too big, no real whistle sound at all-and there it is needed as a safety device!
i had one that sounded good only at highway speed, down hill even better. then i changed to a different whistle{both aremore} and on the second one i tuned each tube with my vacume cleaner blowing untill i thought it was perfection! but... the T does not breath the same as the vacume, so actually the one i took off was better. sounds vary with rpm and load, no sealer, just tighten it up
