Suddenly I have to sign in every time I post? Anybody else having this problem? How to fix it?

I have the same problem.
I think it has to do with your computer settings but dunno how to remedy it.

I've always had to sign in, how did you manage to not have to?

See if you have your "Cookies " enabled in your Browser. This function usually controls user names and passwords when you reenter a website.

This came up a while back. I was never sure if people were talking about having to enter your username and password in the blanks below the window you type the message in, or was some sort of sign in to get to the page. I have been on this forum off and on for probably 10 years and have ALWAYS had to enter my username and password in the two blanks below the message window.

For me, it started several years ago. At the time, I didn't change any settings--It just stopped remembering Username and Password. I think it was about the time of the last update for the forum software. Nothing I've tried has restored it. The settings in the user profile don't do anything.

It's something to do with the computer settings. I never have to sign in on my laptop, but, always on my desktop.

Please, Mike, find the key to it, since you have it both ways. Yes, I've had to sign in for years.

I believe the below July, 2011 thread is the point at which we were all required to log in before being allowed to post on the forum. I seem to recall, at the time, we were increasingly plagued with numerous spammers and hacker attacks, which resulted in numerous forum crashes and shutdowns and this was one of the security measures implemented by Bruce to maintain the integrity of the forum. Before this, we were never required to log in to post. Ah! Those were the days... Jim Patrick

As I type this, my user name and password are already automatically in the boxes below. I never have to sign in. I think it has something to do with a setting in your computer or your browser.

I think I found it. On IE, anyway. Just noticed a window at the bottom that said Do you want IE to remember this password?. Funny thing is, now it's gone and there's a new one that says something about speeding up browsing by disabling add-ons. Maybe they rotate messages?

In IE click on Tools
Click on Internet options
Click on Settings
From the Content tab
Hope this helps!

Chrome a little easier.

Thanks, Kirk. I tried that, but my window is not exactly like that. It doesn't let me use windows search, and has no box for suggesting urls.

Also, I have to enter password the first time I reply to a thread. Was hoping for better.

On MY desktop using IE 10
checked above box shown in my screen print post.
clicked on refresh icon.
saved pw when asked by browser.
on subsequent post
I typed first letter of my username.
My username was displayed.
Selected it and pw was prefilled.

Hope this makes sense.

Drove my coupe 10 miles today.
I get more compliments on it then my touring.
go figure!
Thank you guys for all your advice.

That doesn't work Kirk. That only saves the password on a per-thread basis (URL Level). You still have to sign in on each thread. There's no way to purge or maintain it so the passwords will keep stacking up. That's not the way it worked before. The username and password used to pre-fill on EVERY thread.

You are right Ken, plus I did not answer Jack's original question.

Mine work's fine with Google Chrome.
I use both both browsers.
If one doesn't work the way I think it should, I try the other one.

Kirk;
I use Google Chrome. I don't know much about computers, but I have it to where, when I go on the internet, the MTFCA web site pops up.Then I hit either classified or forum.

I don't do Google anything. I certainly wouldn't intentionally load software from them. As far as I'm concerned, they rank right up there with a virus, Trojan, key logger and just plain thief. I can live without it.
